We describe the case of a lung transplant patient with primary graft failure and an emphysematous native lung, who displayed different respiratory rates between the transplanted lung and the native lung. Inflation of the native lung delayed the next inspiratory effort relative to inflation of the denervated transplanted lung. Synchronous inflation of both lungs required more pressure in each lung than when that lung was inflated with the contralateral lung near functional residual capacity, suggesting the two lungs compete for space within the thoracic cavity.

This study aimed to evaluate the potential of phytochemicals from two native UAE plant species, Arthrocnemum macrostachyum and Tamarix nilotica, as anti-cancer agents. The plant extracts were obtained using two methods, maceration, and microwave-assisted extraction (MAE), and were subsequently evaluated for their in vitro cytotoxicity against three cancer cell lines: breast (MDA-MB-231), colon (HCT-116), and lung (A-549). Results suggest that: 1) MAE is more efficient than maceration in recovering metabolites from plant biomass based on measurements of total phenolic content, radical scavenging activity, and bioactivity of extracts based on in vitro cytotoxicity.

Chemical proteomics has advanced small molecule ligand discovery by providing insights into protein-ligand binding mechanism and enabling medicinal chemistry optimization of protein selectivity on a global scale. Mass spectrometry is the predominant analytical method for chemoproteomics, and various approaches have been deployed to investigate and target a rapidly growing number of protein classes and biological systems. Two methods, intact mass analysis (IMA) and top-down proteomics (TDMS), have gained interest in recent years due to advancements in high resolution mass spectrometry instrumentation.

Host-directed therapies (HDTs) resolve excessive inflammation during tuberculosis (TB) disease, which leads to irreversible lung tissue damage. The peptide-based nanostructures possess intrinsic anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties among HDTs. Native carnosine, a natural dipeptide with superior self-organization and functionalities, was chosen for nanoformulation.

The REAADS VWF activity assay is often assumed to be specific for the A1 domain, the portion of VWF that binds platelet GPIbα. We tested this assay on the A1A2A3 region of VWF with each domain expressed independently of one another and together in combination as a tri-domain. The monoclonal antibody used in this assay is found to be insensitive to the single A domains and does not recognize free A1 domains as it is often assumed.

Each year, the American Cancer Society estimates the numbers of new cancer cases and deaths in the United States and compiles the most recent data on population-based cancer occurrence and outcomes using incidence data collected by central cancer registries (through 2021) and mortality data collected by the National Center for Health Statistics (through 2022). In 2025, 2,041,910 new cancer cases and 618,120 cancer deaths are projected to occur in the United States. The cancer mortality rate continued to decline through 2022, averting nearly 4.
