We present the electron density map of the asymmetric ripple phase of dilauroylphosphatidylcholine. We find that the primary feature characterizing the "asymmetry" of the rippled bilayers is the difference in the bilayer thickness in the two arms, and not the asymmetry of the bilayer height profile as is generally assumed. This difference in the bilayer thickness can be attributed to a mean tilt of the hydrocarbon chains of the lipid molecules along the direction of the ripple wave vector. We propose a Landau theory for this phase which takes into account the anisotropic elastic properties of a bilayer with tilt order.

Molecular arrangement in the chiral smectic phases of the glassforming (S)-4'-(1-methylheptylcarbonyl)biphenyl-4-yl 4-[7-(2,2,3,3,4,4,4-heptafluorobutoxy) heptyl-1-oxy]benzoate is investigated by X-ray diffraction. An increased correlation length of the positional short-range order in the supercooled state agrees with the previous assumption of the hexatic smectic phase. However, the registered X-ray diffraction patterns are not typical for the hexatic phases.

The distribution of dopants in host crystals significantly influences the chemical and electronic properties of materials. Therefore, determining this distribution is crucial for optimizing material performance. The previously developed statistical ALCHEMI (St-ALCHEMI), an extension of the atom-location by channeling-enhanced microanalysis (ALCHEMI) technique, utilizes variations in electron channeling based on the beam direction relative to the crystal orientation.

In orchard environments, negative obstacles such as ditches and potholes pose significant safety risks to robots working within them. This paper proposes a negative obstacle detection method based on LiDAR tilt mounting. With the LiDAR tilted at 40°, the blind spot is reduced from 3 m to 0.

In this study we have used a highly immersive virtual reality (VR) cycling environment where incongruence between virtual hill gradient (created by visual gradient and bike tilt angle) and actual workload (pedalling resistance) can experimentally manipulate perception of exercise effort. This therefore may provide a method to examine the role of effort perception in cardiorespiratory control during exercise. Twelve healthy untrained participants (7 men, age 26 ± 5 years) were studied during five visits.

This article proposes a novel dual-loop control (DLC) method with a Tilt Integral Derivative (TID) Controller for output voltage regulation and inductor current regulation in a boost converter. The TID controller is designed with the aid of swarm inspired algorithms, particularly Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) and Salp Swarm Optimization (SSO). The TID Controller is a robust, and feedback type of controller and belongs to the family of fractional order controllers.
