Fibrous lesions of the breast are challenging for a number of reasons. They occur infrequently and there is significant clinical, radiologic, and histologic overlap between reactive and neoplastic lesions, as well as with some nonfibrous lesions. Pure fibrous lesions of the breast encompass reactive conditions, such as scars and nodular fasciitis, and neoplastic entities, such as the distinct benign mammary myofibroblastoma, locally aggressive fibromatosis, and rare true sarcomas. In this review, we focus on nodular fasciitis, mammary myofibroblastoma, and primary mammary fibromatosis. We also briefly discuss spindle cell metaplastic carcinoma because it represents the most important differential diagnosis through its ability to closely simulate nodular fasciitis and fibromatosis. Caution should be exercised in the interpretation of fibrous lesions of the breast, especially if the tissue sample is limited. Int J Surg Pathol 8(2):99-108, 2000

A paraneoplastic syndrome manifesting as persistent hypoglycaemia, termed Doege-Potter syndrome (DPS), can be associated with these lesions. Surgical treatment is recommended for the management of these tumours.

Pemetrexed is a chemotherapeutic, antimetabolite agent that has been used in oncology to treat diseases such as metastatic non-small cell lung cancer and unresectable malignant pleural mesothelioma. Pemetrexed use may result in pseudocellulitis, which presents as poorly demarcated patches or plaques with erythema, edema, warmth, and tenderness. These lesions can present unilaterally or bilaterally on the lower extremities.

This reported case represents the first well-documented mandibular surgical ciliated cyst, following orthognathic surgery consisting of a combination of Le Fort I bimaxillary and sagittal osteotomy concomitantly with genioplasty, reported in a Brazilian patient. A case of 43-year-old female presenting a mandibular surgical ciliated cyst after 16 years of an orthognathic surgery, consisting of a combination of Le Fort I osteotomy and genioplasty, is reported. The cystic lesion was enucleated, and the histopathological analysis showed a cystic cavity lined by pseudostratified columnar respiratory-type epithelium presenting ciliated and mucous cells supported by fibrous connective tissue without inflammation.

Background: Benign bone lesions are a common incidental finding in athletes during workup for musculoskeletal complaints, and athletes are frequently advised to halt participation in contact sports. There are no current guidelines to assist clinicians in referring patients with these lesions to a subspecialist or in advising athletes on the safety of returning to sport.
Purpose: To assist sports medicine physicians in appropriate referral for patients with benign bone lesions through presentation of a literature review and the case of an adolescent athlete with a benign bone lesion in a location with a significant fracture risk.
