Objective: Several studies have discussed the relationship between cholesterol and gallstones, and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) as a representative of this has been addressed in various diseases. The metric neutrophil to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (NHR) derived from HDL-C has attracted much attention. The purpose of this article is to examine the relationship between NHR and gallstones in a population of American adults.

Background: Breastfeeding has numerous health benefits but social inequality in breastfeeding is documented in many high-income countries. The evidence for improving breastfeeding support through prenatal encounters is conflicting, but points towards a mechanism activated through a positive relationship between the families and their health care providers. A Danish intervention included a home visit by a health visitor during pregnancy to prolong breastfeeding and reduce social inequality in its rates.

Department of Infectious Diseases, Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust, Liverpool, UK; Department of Clinical Infection, Microbiology, and Immunology, Institute of Infection, Veterinary, and Ecological Sciences, University of Liverpool, Liverpool, UK. Electronic address:

Background: Procalcitonin is a rapid response biomarker specific for bacterial infection, which is not routinely used in the UK National Health Service. We aimed to assess whether using a procalcitonin-guided algorithm would safely reduce the duration of antibiotic therapy compared with usual care, in which C-reactive protein is the commonly used biomarker.

Methods: The BATCH trial was a pragmatic, multicentre, open-label, parallel, two-arm, individually randomised, controlled trial conducted in 15 hospitals in England and Wales.

January 2025

Department of Cardiology, Wuhan Children's Hospital (Wuhan Maternal and Child Healthcare Hospital), Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan 430016, China. Electronic address:

Background And Objective: Predicting potential risk factors for the occurrence of coronary artery lesions (CAL) in children with Kawasaki disease (KD) is critical for subsequent treatment. The aim of our study was to establish and validate a nomograph-based model for identifying children with KD at risk for CAL.

Methods: Hospitalized children with KD attending Wuhan Children's Hospital from Jan 2011 to Dec 2023 were included in the study and were grouped into a training set (4793 cases) and a validation set (2054 cases) using a simple random sampling method in a 7:3 ratio.
