A serologic survey was conducted on a population-based representative sample of 521 18-year-old soldiers recruited to the Israel Defence Forces in 1997. The prevalence of neutralizing antibodies and geometric mean titers (GMTs) against the three types of poliovirus (Mahoney, MEF and Saukett strains) were found to be 98.7% (GMT--169.95), 99.6% (GMT--297.14) and 96.4% (GMT - 59.48), respectively. These GMTs are markedly lower than those recorded 4 years after booster vaccination carried out during a 1988 polio outbreak, and suggest a decline in immunity against polio among young adults. These findings support the policy of routine revaccination of children and adolescents in countries at risk of imported polioviruses and of revaccination of adults traveling to areas to which polio is endemic.

Our immune system and gut microbiota are intricately coupled from birth, both going through maturation during early life and senescence during aging almost in a synchronized fashion. The symbiotic relationship between the human host and microbiota is critically dependent on a healthy immune system to keep our microbiota in check; while the microbiota provides essential functions to promote the development and fitness of our immune system. The partnership between our immune system and microbiota is particularly important during early life, in which microbial ligands and metabolites shape the development of the immune cells and immune tolerance; during aging, having sufficient beneficial gut bacteria is critical for the maintenance of intact mucosal barriers, immune metabolic fitness, and strong immunity against pathogens.

This study investigates the relationship between SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR cycle threshold (Ct) values and key COVID-19 transmission and outcome metrics across five years of the pandemic in Jalisco, Mexico. Utilizing a comprehensive time-series analysis, we evaluated weekly median Ct values as proxies for viral load and their temporal associations with positivity rates, reproduction numbers (Rt), hospitalizations, and mortality. Cross-correlation and lagged regression analyses revealed significant lead-lag relationships, with declining Ct values consistently preceding surges in positivity rates and hospitalizations, particularly during the early phases of the pandemic.

Mass vaccination against peste des petits ruminants (PPR) in two southern states of India, namely Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, has reduced disease outbreaks significantly. The sporadic outbreaks reported now can be attributed in part to the recurring movement of sheep and goats between these contiguous states. This study assessed the present level of economic burden and impact of vaccination on the local system (one state), considering the exposure from the external system (neighboring state) using a system dynamic (SD) model.
