Tension-Free vaginal tape (TVT) in women with mixed urinary incontinence--a long-term follow-up.

Published: June 2002

In a prospective long-term study we evaluated the effect of TVT surgery in 80 women suffering from mixed urinary incontinence. Their mean age was 59 +/- 11 years with a mean parity of 2 (range 0-6). Mean follow-up was 4 years (range 3-5). The preoperative evaluation included a 24-hour pad test, quality of life evaluation, gynecologic examination and urodynamic investigations, including simultaneous urethrocystometry. From the patient history 96 patients were initially tentative candidates for TVT operation. Sixteen of these had only minor symptoms and signs of stress incontinence but significant symptoms and signs of detrusor instability, and were not considered suitable for TVT surgery. In the remaining 80 women the urodynamic investigation with filling urethrocystometry demonstrated stress incontinence and urge incontinence concomitant with urethral relaxation and/or 'premature micturition' reflex. At the postoperative long-term follow-up 85% of the patients were completely cured. Another 4% were significantly improved. In 11% of the patients the operation failed. Few intra- or postoperative complications occurred. Based on these results, we conclude that TVT surgery can be used for treatment of female mixed urinary incontinence. A proper urodynamic assessment is recommended before surgery is performed.

Background And Objective: In patients with oligorecurrent prostate cancer (PCa), prostate-specific membrane antigen-targeted radioguided surgery (PSMA-RGS) prolongs treatment-free survival. Data on patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are lacking.

Methods: A retrospective assessment of validated PROMs (12-item Short Form Health Survey [SF-12], 26-item Expanded Prostate Index Composite, and Decision Regret Scale [DRS]) was performed before and after PSMA-RGS for oligorecurrent PCa.

Background: 7-Hydroxymethotrexate (7-OHMTX) is the main metabolite in plasma following high-dose MTX (HD-MTX), which may result in activity and toxicity of the MTX. Moreover, 7-OHMTX could produce crystalline-like deposits within the renal tubules under acidic conditions or induce renal inflammation, oxidative stress, and cell apoptosis through various signaling pathways, ultimately leading to kidney damage. The objectives of this study were thus to explore the exposure-safety relationship of two compounds and search the most reliable marker for predicting HDMTX nephrotoxicity.

This study investigated the effects of different protein sources on feed intake, nutrient, and energy utilization, growth performance, and enteric methane (CH4) emissions in growing beef cattle, also evaluated against a pasture-based diet. Thirty-two Holstein × Angus growing beef were allocated to four dietary treatments: a total mixed ration (TMR) including solvent-extracted soybean meal as the main protein source (SB; n = 8), TMR with local brewers' spent grains (BSG; n = 8), TMR with local field beans (BNS; n = 8), and a diet consisting solely of fresh-cut Italian ryegrass (GRA; n = 8). Every four weeks, animals were moved to digestibility stalls within respiration chambers to measure nutrient intakes, energy and nitrogen (N) utilization, and enteric CH4 emissions.

Influence of Menstrual Phase and Symptoms on Sleep Before and After Matches for Professional Footballers.

This study investigated the association of menstrual cycle phase and symptoms with objective and subjective sleep measures from professional footballers before and after matches. Twenty-three non-hormonal contraceptive-using professional footballers (from four clubs) were monitored for up to four menstrual cycles during a domestic league season. Menstrual phases (menstruation, mid-late follicular, luteal) were determined using calendar counting and urinary hormone tests (luteinizing hormone and pregnandiol-3-glucuronide).
