A feline embryo cell line was treated in vitro with various levels of 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene (DMBA) or dimethyl sulfoxide (control). Repeat treatment of DMBA only induced in vitro transformation of feline embryo cells following clonal growth and selection. The morphologically altered cells formed large cell aggregates and grew in this aggregate form when suspended in liquid growth medium above an agar base, formed colonies in soft agar, and grew to high saturation densities. However, no progressively growing tumors were produced when cells were inoculated into nude athymic mice. The transformed lines were negative for feline oncornavirus-associated cell membrane antigen (FOCMA).

This article describes the carbohydrate composition of early and mature placentas from bitches, detected by lectin histochemistry. Formalin-fixed placental samples from 11 mixed-breed bitches have been assigned to the 'early' or the 'mature' placenta group, processed by the routine histological technique and labelled with a panel of 14 biotinylated lectins. The glycan distribution was almost completely preserved over pregnancy.

This study introduces a low-voltage electroporation microchip designed for transfection in cat embryos, featuring real-time impedance monitoring. The microchip uses a field constriction strategy, which localises the electric field to the membrane region in contact with the micro-orifice, enhancing electroporation efficiency while minimising damage. Embryos were positioned on the orifice, and a series of voltage pulses (10, 15, and 20 V) were applied.

This study investigates lipid content and expression of genes involved in lipid metabolism in feline cumulus cells and oocytes before and after in vitro maturation (IVM). Domestic cats represent valuable models in reproductive research, yet the efficiency of in vitro embryo production remains suboptimal, with contributing factors still under investigation. We characterized lipid droplets (LDs) in oocytes collected from adult queens, both before and after IVM, using confocal microscopy with Bodipy 493/503 staining.
