Background: Previously, we reported that Sema3A, one of the secreted repulsive axon guidance molecules, CRMP (collapsin response mediator protein)-2, a putative intracellular signalling molecule for Sema3A and Sema3A receptor neuropilin-1 are expressed in the developing lung. Sema3A inhibits branching morphogenesis of embryonic lung in organ culture.
Results: We examined the gene expression of Sema3A, Sema3C, Sema3F and their receptors, NP-1, NP-2 and plexin-A1 by in situ hybridization. Transcripts of all six genes were detected in mouse lung from embryonic day E11.5 to E17.5, and displayed highly specific spatiotemporal distributions. The distribution of the receptor genes was detected in patterns which were consistent with known receptor usage of the semaphorins. In contrast to Sema3A, we found that the other class 3 semaphorins, Sema3C and Sema3F, stimulated branching morphogenesis. This stimulatory effect of Sema3C or Sema3F was accompanied by a moderate increase in the incorporation of bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU) into DNA in the terminal epithelial cells.
Conclusion: The coordinated expression patterns of different semaphorins and their receptors, together with the specific activities affecting branching morphogenesis, suggest that the semaphorins act as both positive and negative regulators of branching morphogenesis in the developing lung.

This case report presents an atypical transverse cervical artery with its detailed anatomy, morphogenesis, and association with the high arch-shaped subclavian artery. The atypical arteries, related arteries, and adjacent cervical and brachial plexuses were macroscopically examined in a 98-year-old Japanese female cadaver donated to The Nippon Dental University for medical education and research. The atypical deep branch of the transverse cervical artery originated from the internal thoracic artery and passed through between the C5 and C6 roots, in close contact with the C5 and C6 junction, to reach the dorsal side of the brachial plexus.

Recent barcoding technologies allow reconstructing lineage trees while capturing paired single-cell RNA-sequencing (scRNA-seq) data. Such datasets provide opportunities to compare gene expression memory maintenance through lineage branching and pinpoint critical genes in these processes. Here we develop Permutation, Optimization, and Representation learning based single Cell gene Expression and Lineage ANalysis (PORCELAN) to identify lineage-informative genes or subtrees where lineage and expression are tightly coupled.

During lung development, the embryonic airway originates as a wishbone-shaped epithelial tube, which undergoes a series of branching events to build the bronchial tree. This process depends crucially on cell proliferation and is thought to involve distinct branching modes: lateral branching, wherein daughter branches emerge along the length of a parent branch, and bifurcations, wherein the tip of a parent branch splits to form two new daughter branches. The developing airway is fluid-filled, and previous studies have shown that altered luminal pressure can influence rates of branching morphogenesis.

The domesticated silkworm, Bombyx mori, is crucial for global silk production, which is a significant economic activity supporting millions of livelihoods worldwide. Beyond traditional silk production, the growing demand for insect larvae in cosmetics, biomedical products, and animal feed underscores the need to enhance B. mori productivity.
