Freshwater ecosystems are highly biodiverse and important for livelihoods and economic development, but are under substantial stress. To date, comprehensive global assessments of extinction risk have not included any speciose groups primarily living in freshwaters. Consequently, data from predominantly terrestrial tetrapods are used to guide environmental policy and conservation prioritization, whereas recent proposals for target setting in freshwaters use abiotic factors.

Sexually transmitted proctitis, a prevalent concern among men who have sex with men (MSM) is frequently caused by a range of pathogens, including herpes simplex virus (HSV), and While HSV-associated proctitis typically presents with visible lesions, cases without external manifestations remain evasive. Chimeric antigen receptor T cells (CAR T cells) with T stem (T) cell-like phenotypic characteristics promote sustained antitumor effects. We performed an unbiased and automated high-throughput screen of a kinase-focused compound set to identify kinase inhibitors (KIs) that preserve human T cell-like CAR T cells. We identified three KIs, UNC10225387B, UNC10225263A and UNC10112761A, that combined in vitro increased the frequency of CD45RACCR7TCF1 T cell-like CAR T cells from both healthy donors and patients with cancer.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is one of the most aggressive and grave malignancies with confined and ineffective therapeutic options. XPO1 is a critical regulator of nuclear export and activation of tumor suppressor proteins. The present study evaluated the therapeutic potential and molecular mechanisms of XPO1 inhibition against PDAC.

Representation of exophthalmos in ancient artworks is reported by several authors. In the present paper we analyze a sculpture belonging to the V century AD, likely embodying the eastern Roman emperor Leo I. As the portrait statue is sculpted with uncommon prominent eyes, we discuss the possibility that the historical personage was affected by exophthalmos due to Graves' orbitopathy.
