Objectives: The current study elucidates potential alterations in inflammatory cytokines and dopamine (DA) levels in saliva following a 21-day fasting regimen during Ramadan and explores their associations with mental health parameters.
Materials And Methods: Forty-four healthy young university students (22 females and 22 males; median age 22 (2) and body mass index 23.40 (6.

There are indications that the transient blockade of the dopamine receptor D2 (DRD2) by atypical antipsychotics such as risperidone is related to their metabolic side effects. We, therefore, examined the relationship between TaqIA polymorphism of the DRD2 gene and acute risperidone-induced metabolic changes. We recruited 153 newly diagnosed patients with psychotic disorders (71 males and 82 females) from the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Yaba, Lagos, Nigeria.

Fiber photometry has become a popular technique to measure neural activity in vivo, but common analysis strategies can reduce the detection of effects because they condense signals into summary measures, and discard trial-level information by averaging . We propose a novel photometry statistical framework based on functional linear mixed modeling, which enables hypothesis testing of variable effects at , and uses trial-level signals without averaging. This makes it possible to compare the timing and magnitude of signals across conditions while accounting for between-animal differences.

Neurochemical imbalance is a contributing factor to neurological symptoms in multiple sclerosis (MS). The matured myelin sheath is crucial for substance transportation within the extracellular space (ECS) and for maintaining local homeostasis. Therefore, we hypothesize that disturbed ECS transportation following demyelinating lesions might lead to neurochemical imbalance in MS.

Aging is a progressive and irreversible process, serving as the primary risk factor for neurodegenerative disorders. This study aims to identify the molecular mechanisms underlying physiological aging within the substantia nigra, which is primarily affected by Parkinson's disease, and to draw potential conclusions on the earliest events leading to neurodegeneration in this specific brain region. The characterization of essential stages in aging progress can enhance knowledge of the mechanisms that promote the development of Parkinson's disease.
