Erythropoietin (EPO) cDNA was cloned from kidney total RNA of a NZW rabbit. The cDNA comprises a 588-bp open reading frame encoding a 195 amino acid protein with distinguishable regions of high of homology to other mammalian EPOs. Intramuscular injection of mice with a rabbit EPO expression plasmid resulted in a significant hematocrit increase. A rabbit genomic DNA fragment was also cloned using the rabbit EPO cDNA. This 4312-bp genomic DNA fragment contains sequences homologous to the mouse EPO promoter and hypoxia-responsive enhancer. In addition, the genomic DNA also presents a high degree of conservation to other regions involved in hypoxia response. Sequence divergence in the 3' UTR may indicate differences in regulation of mRNA stability or response to low oxygen tension.

The fast osteogenesis of the large alveolar fossa and the maintenance of the height of the alveolar ridge after tooth extraction have always been a clinical challenge. Therefore, this work describes the creation of innovative silk fibroin/collagen/hydroxyapatite (SCH) biological scaffolds by 3D printing technology, which are loaded with recombinant human erythropoietin (rh-EPO) for the reconstruction of bone defects. Low-temperature 3D printing can maintain the biological activity of silk fibroin and collagen.

Generalised modules for membrane antigens (GMMA)-based vaccines comprise the outer membrane from genetically modified Gram-negative bacteria containing membrane proteins, phospholipids and lipopolysaccharides. Some lipoproteins and lipopolysaccharides are pyrogens; thus, GMMA-based vaccines are intrinsically pyrogenic. It is important to control the pyrogenic content of biological medicines, including vaccines, to prevent adverse reactions such as febrile responses.

Diethylcarbamazine citrate (DEC) is known as an effective treatment for bronchial asthma because of its ability to reduce eosinophil trafficking to the lung tissue. The current study aimed to potentiate the anti-allergic effect of the drug by passive immunization of the asthmatic model with anti-DEC antibody or prior treatment with quercetin (Qur). Eight mice groups were categorized into control, the model of lung asthma, treated with DEC, passively immunized with anti(α)-bovine serum albumin Ab, anti-DEC Ab, prior exposure to 10, 20, or 40 mg Qur/Kg.

Background Total liquid ventilation (TLV) has been shown to prevent neurological damage though ultrafast cooling in animal models of cardiac arrest. We investigated whether its neuroprotective effect could be explained by mitigation of early inflammatory events. Methods and Results Rabbits were submitted to 10 minutes of ventricular fibrillation.
