Changes in proteinase--antiproteinase activities in lungs as a result of short-term (for 1 week) inhalation of rats with 0.01% (CH3COO)2 Pb have wholly compensative patterns, but it have been found increased cathepsine B activity as a negative prognostic factor. Chronic (for 2 month) toxicant inhalation caused considerable activation of both trypsine and cathepsine B under decreasing alpha 1-antitrypsine and alpha 2-macroglobuline activities. Cathepsine L activity was not affected. Disorders in the proteolysis system were evaluated as desadaptation situation in lung tissue under chronic toxic influence.

Silver nanoparticles-loaded hydrogel nanocomposites are exploited for medicinal and pharmaceutical applications. Hydrogel nanocomposites were prepared from acrylamide (Am), chitosan (CS) and AgNO utilizing gamma rays. Diverse variables were applied in preparation of silver nanoparticles-laoded hydrogel nanocomposites of (PAm/CS)-AgNPs such as influence of radiation dose and influnece of CS concentration.

Echinococcus granulosus sensu lato is a platyhelminth parasite and the etiological cause of cystic echinococcosis (CE), a zoonotic and neglected disease that infects animals and humans worldwide. As a part of the biological arsenal of the parasite, cathepsin L proteases are a group of proteins that are believed to be essential for parasite penetration, immune evasion, and establishment in the tissues of the host. In this work, we have cloned and sequenced a new putative cathepsin L protease from Echinococcus canadensis (EcCLP1).

University of Tours, Tours, France; Inserm, UMR1100, Research Center for Respiratory Diseases (CEPR), Team "Proteolytic Mechanisms in Inflammation", 10, boulevard Tonnellé, 37032 Tours cedex, France. Electronic address:

Smoking is accountable for most of the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) cases. COPD, which is characterized by the development of chronic bronchitis, could be associated with emphysema. In active smokers, there is an overexpression of cathepsin S, a cysteine protease, which participates in the development of emphysema via its elastinolytic activity.

Widespread alterations upon exposure to the estrogenic endocrine disruptor ethinyl estradiol in the liver proteome of the marine male fish Cyprinodon variegatus.

Aquat Toxicol

July 2022

Centro de Investigación Mariña da Universidade de Vigo (CIM-UVigo), Vigo, Galicia, Spain; Department of Biochemistry, Genetics and Immunology, University of Vigo, Vigo, Spain. Electronic address:

Quantitative proteomic changes in the liver of adult males of Sheepshead minnow (Cyprinodon variegatus) upon exposure to ethinyl estradiol (EE2) were assessed to provide an advanced understanding of the metabolic pathways affected by estrogenic endocrine disruption in marine fish, and to identify potential novel molecular biomarkers for the environmental exposure to estrogens. From a total of 3188 identified protein groups (hereafter proteins), 463 showed a statistically significant difference in their abundance between EE2 treatment and solvent control samples. The most affected biological processes upon EE2 exposure were related to ribosomal biogenesis, protein synthesis and transport of nascent proteins to endoplasmic reticulum, and nuclear mRNA catabolism.

We studied the effects of cathepsins produced by immunocompetent cells of intact mice, mice with B16 melanoma, mice with removed B16 melanoma, and mice with removed Ehrlich carcinoma on the growth of B16 melanoma. Incubation of B16 melanoma cells with cathepsins from immunocompetent cells of intact mice, mice with B16 melanoma, and mice with removed Ehrlich carcinoma did not affect tumor growth. Incubation of B16 melanoma cells with cathepsin from immunocompetent cells of mice with removed B16 melanoma was followed by complete loss of malignancy by these cells.
