Pump-probe measurements were performed with a subwavelength spatial resolution of 355 nm and a temporal resolution of 130 fs in a multiple quantum well sample at T= 8 K. A solid immersion lens was used to increase the spatial resolution to 0.41 lambda, demonstrating that the limit of conventional microscopy was surpassed.

Controlled breakdown has emerged as an effective method for fabricating solid-state nanopores in thin suspended dielectric membranes for various biomolecular sensing applications. On an unpatterned membrane, the site of nanopore formation by controlled breakdown is random. Nanopore formation on a specific site on the membrane has previously been realized using local thinning of the membrane by lithographic processes or laser-assisted photothermal etching under immersion in an aqueous salt solution.

Lignification often occurs during low-temperature storage in loquat fruit, leading to increased firmness and lignin content, water loss, and changes in flavor. Cryopreservation, the preservation of tissues at subzero temperatures, is a mainstay of brain banking that allows for the storage of brain tissue without the use of chemical fixatives. This is particularly important for molecular studies that are incompatible with tissue fixation. However, brain tissue is vulnerable to various forms of damage during the cryopreservation process, in particular due to the phase transition of water from a liquid to a solid state with the formation of ice crystals, which can disrupt cellular morphology.
