Spectral deconvolution using stripping ratios for a set of pre-defined energy windows is the simplest means of reducing the most important part of gamma-ray spectral information. In this way, the effective interferences between the measured peaks are removed, leading, through a calibration, to clear estimates of radionuclide inventory. While laboratory measurements of stripping ratios are relatively easy to acquire, with detectors placed above small-scale calibration pads of known radionuclide concentrations, the extrapolation to measurements at altitudes where airborne survey detectors are used bring difficulties such as air-path attenuation and greater uncertainties in knowing ground level inventories. Stripping ratios are altitude dependent, and laboratory measurements using various absorbers to simulate the air-path have been used with some success. Full-scale measurements from an aircraft require a suitable location where radionuclide concentrations vary little over the field of view of the detector (which may be hundreds of metres). Monte Carlo simulations offer the potential of full-scale reproduction of gamma-ray transport and detection mechanisms. Investigations have been made to evaluate stripping ratios using experimental and Monte Carlo methods.

The limited cycling durability of Zn anode, attributed to the absence of a robust electrolyte-derived solid electrolyte interphase (SEI), remains the bottleneck for the practical deployment of aqueous zinc batteries. Herein, we highlight the role of local supersaturation in governing the fundamental crystallization chemistry of Zn4SO4(OH)6·xH2O (ZSH) and propose a subtle supersaturation-controlled morphology strategy to tailor the interphase chemistry of Zn anode. By judiciously creating local high-supersaturation environment with organic caprolactam to manipulate the precipitation manner of zinc sulfate hydroxide (ZSH), lattice-lattice matched heterogeneous nucleation of ZSH (001) and Zn (002) is realized in aqueous ZnSO4, producing a dense, pseudo-coincidence interface capable of functioning as decent SEI.

Background: Due to the specific anatomical features of the tibia (limited soft tissue coverage), more than a quarter of its fractures are classified as open, representing the most common open long-bone injuries. Open tibial fractures frequently cause significant bone comminution, periosteal stripping, soft tissue loss, contamination and are prone to bacterial entry with biofilm formation, which increases the risk of deep bone infection. The main objective of this study was to determine prevalence of infection and its associated factors in surgically treated open tibial fracture, at Addis Ababa Burn Emergency and Trauma (AaBET) hospital.

A new class of ligands, ,'-dialkyl-2,6-pyridinediamide (DRPDA), has been designed with the specific intention of exhibiting interchangeable diversity in coordination modes, including organometallic interactions, for the purpose of solvent extraction of elements relevant to the proper treatment of high-level radioactive liquid waste (HLLW) generated after nuclear fuel reprocessing. Consequently, DRPDA has been observed to extract Pd(II) and Zr(IV) from HNO(aq) to 1-octanol in nearly quantitative yields when the selected ligand is sufficiently hydrophobic. However, concomitance of some of other HLLW components were also found.

Accurate in situ carbon isotopic measurements of magnesium-rich carbonates using LA-MC-ICP-MS require effective correction for isobaric interference, particularly from doubly charged Mg ions that can induce δC deviations of several permil. This study focuses on optimizing gas parameters and developing robust correction strategies to improve the accuracy of δC measurements. Experimental results demonstrate that the introduction of nitrogen gas at a flow rate of 4-6 mL/min effectively doubles signal sensitivity while optimizing low helium (0.

The effect of Bi-to-metal ion concentration ratio ( / ratio) on key evaluation indicators, including sensitivity, precision, and cathodic potential range, has been investigated for the determination of Cd and Pb at prepared bismuth film electrodes. Unlike the usual recommendation of at least a 10-fold excess of Hg(ii) for anodic stripping experiments at prepared mercury film electrodes, it is found that the / ratios in the 1-10 range are sufficient to obtain a high determination sensitivity, but that the signal decreases significantly when the ratio exceeds 40. Further analysis shows that the precision of the analytical results is good when the / ratio is in the range of 5-10.
