Quality specifications for the reliability of performance characteristics of laboratory testing, particularly precision and bias, are necessary prerequisites for creation and control of analytical quality. Many strategies have been promulgated for setting these specifications. Recently, the available approaches have been fixed into a hierarchical framework that has now been accepted by experts in the field to be the best current approach to a global strategy for setting quality specifications in laboratory medicine. They should be incorporated into quality planning strategies everywhere irrespective of the settings in which laboratory medicine is practised, including the point of care testing (POCT). Models higher in the hierarchy are preferred to lower approaches but lower approaches are better than none and should be used as the minimum standard.

Background: Venous thromboembolism (VTE), including pulmonary embolism (PE) and deep vein thrombosis (DVT), is a potentially fatal disease with a multifactorial nature, impacting different medical and surgical specialties. Recently, new guidelines and direct oral anticoagulants facilitated early discharge for most DVT patients and non-severe PE patients.
Objective: The aim of this study is to illustrate the distribution of VTE patients throughout the hospital and map their care pathway from Emergency Department (ED) to hospital discharge.

Detection of spp. DNA in gynaecological samples by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) is considered to be the reference diagnostic test for female genital schistosomiasis (FGS). However, qPCR needs expensive laboratory procedures and highly trained technicians.

Purpose: The aim of the study was to assess the effect of policy intervention on the physician ordering of HbA1c for the patients seen at the primary health care center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Methods: The study included patients over the age of 18 for whom HbA1c tests were ordered before and after the policy restrictions were implemented at the three main Primary Health Care Centers under the Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs (MNGHA) in Riyadh, between October 2020 and August 2023. Several data management steps and restrictions were carried out to identify the patients seen before and after the intervention and controlled for the confounders.

Background: We evaluated if the course of recovery from sepsis-induced acute kidney injury (AKI) can be predicted using variables collected at admission.
Methods: A total of 63 patients admitted for sepsis-induced AKI in our Mangalore ICU were evaluated and baseline demographic and clinical/laboratory parameters, including serum creatinine (SCr), base excess (BE), Plethysmographic Variability Index (PVI), Caval Index, R wave variability index (RVI), mean arterial pressure (MAP) and renal resistivity index (RI) using renal doppler and need for inotropes were assessed on admission. Patients were managed as per standard protocol.

Introduction: As part of an exploratory and hypothesis-generating study, we developed the Sports Preference Questionnaire (SPOQ) to survey the athletic behavior of mentally ill children and adolescents, subjectively assessed physical fitness and perceived psychological effects of physical activity.
Methods: In a department of child and adolescent psychiatry, we classified 313 patients (6-18 years) according to their primary psychiatric diagnosis. The patients or-in the parental version of the questionnaire-their parents reported their sport preferences on the SPOQ.
