Hepatic gas gangrene (HGG) is a rare but life-threatening condition typically caused by anaerobic bacteria such as Clostridium perfringens, though Gram-negative bacteria like Escherichia coli and Klebsiella species have also been implicated. Traditionally diagnosed via computed tomography (CT), point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) has emerged as a valuable tool in critical care settings for its non-invasive, bedside utility. We report the case of a 51-year-old female with choledochal syndrome secondary to cholangiocarcinoma who developed HGG following left extended hepatectomy and biliary reconstruction.

The objective of this work was to explore the capabilities of a field emission gun scanning electron microscope (FEG-SEM) equipped with a transmission scanning electron detector (TSEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) to identify nanoscale chemical heterogeneities in a gas atomization reaction synthesis (GARS) steel sample. The results of this analysis were compared to the same study conducted with scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) with EDS mapping. TSEM-EDS was performed using the standard spectral analysis approach, i.

: Hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) in late preterm and term neonates accounts for neonatal mortality and unfavorable neurodevelopmental outcomes in survivors despite therapeutic hypothermia (TH) for neuroprotection. The circumstances of death in neonates with HIE, including involvement of neonatal palliative care (NPC) specialists and neurodevelopmental follow-up at 18-24 months in survivors, warrant further evaluation. : A retrospective multicenter cohort study including neonates ≥ 35 weeks gestational age with moderate to severe HIE receiving TH, registered in the Swiss National Asphyxia and Cooling Register between 2011 and 2021.

The primary objective of this study was to assess the impact of pelvic floor muscle (PFM) strengthening on the pelvic floor function in women who have experienced OASIS two years after delivery, and the secondary objective was to educate women about PFM strengthening and instruct them on the correct way to exercise. A prospective case-control study was conducted. The participants were divided into two groups: the case group (women who experienced OASIS) and the control group (women who did not experience perineal tears but had similar obstetric-related data to the case).
