Background: Metabolic syndrome (MS) refers to a cluster of metabolic disorders characterized by systemic chronic inflammation. Er Miao San (EMS) is a classic traditional Chinese medicine compound containing Phellodendron amurense and Atractylodis rhizome at a ratio of 1:1, proven to be effective against inflammatory diseases in clinical practice. Nevertheless, the precise functions of EMS in treating MS and its underlying mechanism have yet to be elucidated.

However, its long-term administration causes irregular involuntary motor movements, targeting the orofacial regions. Glycyrrhizic acid (GA) is a naturally occurring triterpene saponin glycoside obtained from the roots of the Glycyrrhiza glabra (liquorice) plant and well known for its antioxidant, antiapoptotic and neuroprotective abilities.

Osseous choristomas, characterized by ectopic bone, are rare and typically found in the head and neck, particularly on the tongue. This report describes a unique case of an osseous choristoma in a 63-year-old male with an unusual posterior tongue location. An incidental base of tongue (BOT) mass was discovered during a bronchoscopy for lung biopsy.

Anatomically the tongue of Gallus gallus domesticus (Galliformes: Phasianidae) is distinguished into sharp rostral apex, body and root with numerous conical papillae arranged in rows in different sizes in the free portion and the root of the tongue. The epithelium covered the dorsal and ventral surfaces of the free portion and the dorsal surface of the root of the tongue. Numerous orifices of the salivary glands were scattered in the root of the tongue.
