Evaluating cutinase from Fusarium oxysporum as a biocatalyst for the degradation of nine synthetic polymer.

Plastic poses a significant environmental impact due to its chemical resilience, leading to prolonged and degradation times and resulting in widespread adverse effects on global flora and fauna. Cutinases are essential enzymes in the biodegradation process of synthetic polymers like polyethylene terephthalate (PET), which recognized organisms can break down. Here, we used molecular dynamics and binding free energy calculations to explore the interaction of nine synthetic polymers, including PET, with Cutinase from Fusarium oxysporum (FoCut).

Despite the increasing burden of dengue in Kenya and Africa, the introduction and expansion of the virus in the region remain poorly understood. The objective of this study is to examine the genetic diversity and evolutionary histories of dengue virus (DENV) serotypes 1 and 3 in Kenya and contextualize their circulation within circulation dynamics in the broader African region. Viral RNA was extracted from samples collected from a cohort of febrile patients recruited at clinical sites in Kenya from 2013 to 2022.

Strain LCG007, isolated from Lu Chao Harbor's intertidal water, phylogenetically represents a novel genus within the family Rhodobacteraceae. Metabolically, it possesses a wide array of amino acid metabolic genes that enable it to thrive on both amino acids or peptides. Also, it could hydrolyze peptides containing D-amino acids, highlighting its potential role in the cycling of refractory organic matter.

Bacteriophage research has experienced a renaissance in recent years, owing to their therapeutic potential and versatility in biotechnology, particularly in combating antibiotic resistant-bacteria along the farm-to-fork continuum. However, certain pathogens remain underexplored as targets for phage therapy, including the zoonotic pathogen which causes infections in pigs and humans. Despite global efforts, the genome of only one infective phage has been described.
