The Lambda+c lifetime is measured using 9.0 fb(-1) of e+e- annihilation data collected on or just below the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the CLEO II.V detector at CESR. Using an unbinned maximum likelihood fit, the Lambda+c lifetime is measured to be 179.6+/-6.9(stat)+/-4.4(syst) fs. The precision of this colliding beam measurement is comparable to other measurements, which are based on fixed-target experiments, with different systematic uncertainties.

This study explores the nonlinear optical (NLO) and photophysical properties of newly designed naphthyridine derivatives by density functional theory (DFT). The first hyperpolarizability (β), a key indicator of NLO activity, varies significantly depending on the substituent groups. N-substituted compounds (IUB-N series) generally show lower β values, while compounds with electron donor/acceptor groups (IUB-P series) demonstrate a broader range, with IUB-A-02 achieving the highest β value of 16,362 a.

A covalently bonded hexanuclear neutral complex, [Mn(μ-O)(3-MeO-salox)(OAc)(HO)] (1), has been synthesized and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis along with IR and HRMS studies. Complex 1 has been found to selectively interact with human serum albumin (HSA), a model transport protein. The interaction of 1 with HSA was investigated by monitoring the change in the absorbance value of HSA at = 280 nm with increasing concentration of 1.

The DNA binding and cellular uptake of the lambda enantiomer of two bis-tetraazaphenanthrene (TAP) Ru(II) polypyridyl complexes containing either a linear dppn () or a hooked bdppz () benzodipyridophenazine ligand are reported, and the role of different charge-transfer states of the structural isomers in the photo-oxidation of guanine is explored. Both complexes possess characteristic metal-to-ligand charge-transfer (MLCT) bands between 400 and 500 nm and emission at ca. 630 nm in an aerated aqueous solution.

Ir(III) and Ru(II) polypyridyl complexes are promising photosensitizers (PSs) for photodynamic therapy (PDT) due to their outstanding photophysical properties. Herein, one series of cyclometallated Ir(III) complexes and two series of Ru(II) polypyridyl derivatives bearing three different thiazolyl-β-carboline N^N' ligands have been synthesized, aiming to evaluate the impact of the different metal fragments ([Ir(C^N)] or [Ru(N^N)]) and N^N' ligands on the photophysical and biological properties. All the compounds exhibit remarkable photostability under blue-light irradiation and are emissive (605 < λ < 720 nm), with the Ru(II) derivatives displaying higher photoluminescence quantum yields and longer excited state lifetimes.

Bare lanthanide-doped nanoparticles (LnNPs), in particular, NaYF:Yb,Tm NPs (UC), have been seeded in situ with gold cations to be used in the subsequent growth of gold nanoclusters (AuNCs) in the presence of glutathione (GSH) to obtain a novel UC@AuNC nanoheterostructure (NHS) with a raspberry-like morphology. UC@AuNC displays unique optical properties (multiple absorption and emission wavelengths). Specifically, upon 350 nm excitation, it exhibits AuNC photoluminescence (PL) (500-1200 nm, λ 650 nm) and Yb emission (λ 980 nm); this is the first example of Yb sensitization in a UC@AuNC NHS.
