Objective: To investigate the effects of the traditional herb-epimedium on the expression of interleukin-6 (IL-6) mRNA in bone of ovariectomized rat.
Methods: Forty female rats were randomly allocated into 4 groups, 10 in each: ovariectomized (OVX) group, sham operation group, OVX followed by epimedium (group 3) or nilestriol (group 4) for 3 months respectively. All rats were then sacrificed, and total RNA were directly isolated from their right tibia. Interleukin-6 mRNA expression was detected by relative semiquantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction technique. Lumbar bone mineral density (BMD) was measured by dual-energy X ray absorptiometry before sacrifice.
Results: The BMD of epimedium group was significantly higher than that in the OVX group (P < 0.05). On the contrary, the IL-6 mRNA expression level of epimedium group was significantly lower than that in the OVX group (P < 0.01), but higher than those in the sham and nilestrial group (P < 0.01).
Conclusions: IL-6 may play a role in the pathogenesis of postmenopausal teoporosis. Epimedium can inhibit the expression of IL-6 mRNA, which may contribute to its anti-resorptive effect.

Background: The study aimed to detect the association between insulin-like growth factor 2 mRNA-binding protein 2 (IGF2BP2) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) polymorphisms among type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
Materials And Methods: This study involved 500 individuals; 250 obese DM cases and 250 healthy controls. The polymerase chain reaction restriction fragment length polymorphism was used to identify the genotype of the IGF2BP2 gene for the small nucleoproteins rs4402960 (G>T) and small nucleoproteins rs800795 (G>C).
Although current treatments for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) have proven to be effective in delaying myopathy, there remains a strong need to identify novel targets to develop additional therapies. Mitochondrial dysfunction is an early pathological feature of DMD. A fine balance of mitochondrial dynamics (fission and fusion) is crucial to maintain mitochondrial function and skeletal muscle health.

The primary intent of this manuscript is to ascertain the effect of cucurbitacin IIa on ulcerative colitis (UC) and illustrate the potential mechanisms based on intestinal barrier function and the PERK/ATF4/CHOP signaling pathway. The UC mouse model was constructed by drinking 3% dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) for 1 week. The colonic tissues were stained with HE to assess pathological changes.

Background: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a significant inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that typically arises from chronic inflammation of the intestinal tract. Report suggest that anti-inflammatory drug plays a crucial role in the protection of UC. The recent study demonstrated that columbianadin has a protective effect against UC induced by dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) in rats through the modulation of HO-1/Nrf2 and TLR4-NF-κB signaling pathways.

This study aimed to investigate the regulatory effects of raspberry ketone on hypothalamic inflammation and its mechanism. Mouse microglia cells (BV2 cells) were cultured in vitro with palmitic acid (100 μM) to induce inflammation model and then incubated with raspberry ketone (5, 20, 50 μM) alone or raspberry ketone (50 μM) and the specific inhibitor of uncoupling protein 2 (UCP2), genipin (10 μM), to test the role of UCP2 in raspberry ketone regulatory of inflammation. Meanwhile, C57BL/6J mice were fed a high-fat diet containing raspberry ketone (0.
