Skeletal muscle plays a significant role in both local and systemic energy metabolism. The current investigation aims to explore the role of the Bambi gene in skeletal muscle, focusing on its implications for muscle hypertrophy and systemic metabolism. We hypothesize that skeletal muscle-specific deletion of Bambi induces muscle hypertrophy, improves metabolic performance, and activates thermogenic adipocytes via the reprogramming of progenitor of iWAT, offering potential therapeutic strategies for metabolic syndromes.

Organ-on-a-chip culture systems using human organ tissues provide invaluable preclinical insights into systemic functions . This study aimed to develop a novel human testicular tissue chip within a microfluidic device employing computer-aided design software and photolithography technology. Polydimethylsiloxane was used as the primary material to ensure marked gas permeability and no biotoxicity, enabling effective mimicry of the testicular microenvironment.

Posterior Limbal Mesenchymal Stromal Cells Promote Proliferation and Stemness of Transition Zone Cells: A Novel Insight Into Corneal Endothelial Rejuvenation.

Invest Ophthalmol Vis Sci

January 2025

Department of Ophthalmology, New Zealand National Eye Centre, Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, The University of Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand.

Purpose: Progenitors for the corneal endothelium have been identified in the transition zone (TZ), but their cellular interactions remain undefined. Posterior limbal mesenchymal stromal cells (P-LMSCs) may support TZ cells in the posterior limbus. This study aims to characterize P-LMSCs and investigate their effects on TZ cells.

Navigating the referral boundaries for organ and tissue donation: An interpretive description study.

Aust Crit Care

January 2025

School of Nursing, College of Health and Medicine, University of Tasmania, Private Bag 132, Hobart, Tasmania 7001, Australia.

Background: The gap between organ availability and the number of people waiting for a transplant remains a major healthcare issue. Most transplanted organs and tissue are received from donors who have died in intensive care units (ICUs). To increase the number of donors, national guidelines and professional bodies in Australia support routine consideration of organ and tissue donation at the end of life.

Purpose: The study tests the relationships between continuous improvement (CI) and clinical practices (CP) with perceived operational performance in Australian and New Zealand (NZ) emergency departments.

Design/methodology/approach: A survey instrument was designed to collect data from Australian and NZ Emergency Department physicians to test a model developed from the literature, the continuous improvement and clinical practice (CICP) model. Hypotheses were developed and tested using bivariate correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis.
