Presence of dengue virus RNA in urine and oral fluid of laboratory-confirmed dengue patients: Implications for wastewater surveillance.

Braz J Infect Dis

November 2024

Fundação Oswaldo Cruz, Instituto Gonçalo Moniz, Salvador, BA, Brazil; Universidade Federal da Bahia, Faculdade de Medicina da Bahia, Salvador, BA, Brazil. Electronic address:

Introduction: Dengue cases in the Americas in 2024 have reached record highs, especially in Brazil. However, surveillance remains suboptimal and new methods are needed to monitor Dengue Virus (DENV) spread. To assess whether wastewater-based epidemiology would be a useful tool, we investigated the presence of DENV RNA in dengue patients' urine and oral fluid from an endemic area to inform how shedding in these fluids occurs and provide insight for wastewater surveillance.

The Role of Interoceptive Sensitivity and Hypnotizability in Motor Imagery.

Brain Sci

August 2024

Department of Translational Research and New Technologies in Medicine and Surgery, University of Pisa, Via San Zeno 31, 56127 Pisa, Italy.

Motor imagery (MI) requires the mental representation of the body, obtained by integrating exteroceptive and interoceptive information. This study aimed to investigate the role of interoceptive sensitivity (IS) in MI performed through visual and kinesthetic modalities by participants with low (lows, = 26; SHSS: A, + : 1.00 + 1.

New Psychoactive Substances: A Canadian perspective on emerging trends and challenges for the clinical laboratory.

Clin Biochem

December 2024

Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathobiology, University of Toronto, Toronto, ON, Canada; Department of Laboratory Medicine, Unity Health Toronto (St. Michael's Hospital), Toronto, ON, Canada. Electronic address:

The production and use of New Psychoactive Substances (NPS) has skyrocketed over the last decade, causing major challenges for government authorities, public health agencies, and laboratories across the world. NPS are designed to mimic the psychoactive effects of unregulated or controlled drugs, while constantly being modified to evade drug control regulation. Hence, they are referred to as "legal highs", as they are technically legal to sell, possess, and use.

This study focuses on the comprehensive reservoir characterization of the 'Kukih' Field within the onshore northeastern Niger Delta region, Nigeria. The absence of its detailed description with delineated reservoir properties, lateral continuity, and their use to identify potential reservoir quality and heterogeneity necessitated this study. Integrating well log and 3D seismic data, the investigation aims to elucidate reservoir properties, lithofacies, and depositional environments to unravel hydrocarbon potential.

Background: The Svalbard Archipelago is commonly believed to have been located at comparable latitude and, possibly, to have been attached to Laurentia in the early Paleozoic (500-420 Ma) based on trilobite assemblage similarities. Trilobite assemblage differences and lack of mixing between Laurentia-Svalbard and Baltica were further used to propose that these continents were separated by the Iapetus Ocean at that time. However, recent structural correlation of Timanian (650-550 Ma) thrust systems throughout the Barents Sea show that Svalbard was already attached to Baltica in the latest Neoproterozoic and remained so during the Phanerozoic.
