The essential oil of the aerial parts of Baccharis notosergila was examined by GC and GC-MS. Thirty-one constituents were identified representing 96.4% and alpha-pinene, limonene, beta-caryophyllene, and spathulenol were found to be the major components. Furthermore, the oil was tested against eight gram-positive and -negative bacteria and it was found that they exhibited moderate antibacterial activity.

Following a request from the European Commission, EFSA was asked to deliver a scientific opinion on the safety and efficacy of an essential oil from the aerial parts of  ×  L. (peppermint oil) when used as a sensory additive in feed and in water for drinking for all animal species. The EFSA Panel on Additives and Products or Substances used in Animal Feed (FEEDAP) concluded that that peppermint oil is safe for all animal species at the maximum use level of 12 mg/kg complete feed.

The RNase activity of MCPIP1 is essential for regulating cellular homeostasis, proliferation, and tumorigenesis. Our study elucidates the effects of downregulation of MCPIP1 expression and an RNase-inactivating mutation (D141N) on normal epithelial kidney cells, indicating that MCPIP1 expression is a key factor that suppresses neoplastic transformation. We observed that either expression downregulation or mutation of MCPIP1 significantly increased its clonogenicity and altered the expression of cancer stem cell (CSC) markers and factors involved in epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT).
