Background And Objectives: Lipid metabolism in older adults is affected by various factors including biological aging, functional decline, reduced physiologic reserve, and nutrient intake. The dysregulation of lipid metabolism could adversely affect brain health. This study investigated the association between year-to-year intraindividual lipid variability and subsequent risk of cognitive decline and dementia in community-dwelling older adults.

Intravenous leiomyomatosis (IVL) remains scarcely reported, and complete tumor resection is the recommended treatment. Herein, we present a comprehensive review of the case of a 52-year-old woman who suffered from recurrent syncope episodes due to IVL with intracardiac extension to the right atrium. Partial tumor resection and postoperative hormone therapy were conducted first.

Sleep staging is a crucial task in clinical and research contexts for diagnosing and understanding sleep disorders. This work introduces PhysioEx, a Python library designed to support the analysis of sleep stages using deep learning and Explainable AI (XAI). Approach: PhysioEx provides an extensible and modular API for standardizing and automating the sleep staging pipeline, covering data preprocessing, model training, testing, fine-tuning, and explainability.

The contribution of sex hormones to cardiovascular disease, including arterial stiffness, is established; however, the role of sex chromosome interaction with sex hormones, particularly in women, is lagging. Arterial structural stiffness depends on the intrinsic properties and transmural wall geometry that comprise a network of cells and extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins expressed in a sex-dependent manner. In this study, we used four-core genotype (FCG) mice to determine the relative contribution of sex hormones versus sex chromosomes or their interaction with arterial structural stiffness.

Introduction: Altered vascular microcirculation is recognized as a risk factor for anastomotic leakage (AL) in colorectal surgery. However, few studies evaluated its impact on AL using different devices, with heterogeneous results. The present study reported the initial experience measuring gut microcirculatory density and flow with the aid of incidence dark-field (IDF) videomicroscopy (Cytocam, Braedius, Amsterdam, The Netherlands) comparing its operative outcome using a propensity score matching (PSM) model based on age, gender, and Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI).
