Published: May 2001

Two new biotransformation products, N-acetyl-m-aminobenzoic acid and N-formyl-m-aminobenzoic acid were isolated from cell suspension cultures of Solanum laciniatum following administration of m-aminobenzoic acid, and their structures were elucidated using one- and two-dimensional 1H- and 13C-NMR data.

A rapid synthesis of a pH-stable magnetic nano-sensor (iron oxide nanoparticles, Fe-NPs, ∼2.6 nm) encapsulated with 3-aminobenzoic acid (3-ABA) was achieved. 3-ABA was prepared for the first time through the reduction of 3-nitrobenzoic acid (3-NBA) in the presence of HCl and tin.

Pesticides employed for controlling domestic and agricultural pests are among the most dangerous environmental contaminants. Nevertheless, negligent usage and a lack of technical expertise have led to the contamination and pollution of various ecological niches. The extensive utilization of the organophosphate chlorpyrifos (CPs) for insect infestation control, coupled with its detrimental effects and persistence in the ecosystem, has led to calls for its removal from contaminated sites.

The glycosaminoglycan hyaluronan (HA) is a ubiquitous, nonsulfated polysaccharide with diverse biological roles mediated through its interactions with HA-binding proteins (HABPs). Most HABPs belong to the Link module superfamily, including the major HA receptor, CD44, and secreted protein TSG-6, which catalyzes the covalent transfer of heavy chains from inter-α-inhibitor onto HA. The structures of the HA-binding domains (HABDs) of CD44 (HABD_CD44) and TSG-6 (Link_TSG6) have been determined and their interactions with HA extensively characterized.

Sorghum, a cereal grain rich in nutrients, is a major source of phenolic compounds that can be altered by different processes, thereby modulating their phenolic content and antioxidant properties. Previous studies have characterised phenolic compounds from pigmented and non-pigmented varieties. However, the impact of processing via the cooking and fermentation of these varieties remains unknown.

Herein, a modified screen printed carbon electrode (SPCE) based on a composite material, graphene oxide-gold nanoparticles (GO-AuNPs), and poly(3-aminobenzoic acid)(P3ABA) for the detection of paraquat (PQ) is introduced. The modified electrode was fabricated by drop casting of the GO-AuNPs, followed by electropolymerization of 3-aminobenzoic acid to achieve SPCE/GO-AuNPs/P3ABA. The morphology and microstructural characteristics of the modified electrodes were revealed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) for each step of modification.
