Thoracoscopic Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion with the AtriClip PRO2: An Experience of 144 Patients.

Aim: To report the clinical outcomes of thoracoscopic left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) with the AtriClip PRO2 device (Atricure Inc, Mason, OH, USA). Stroke risk reduction with LAAO in patients with atrial fibrillation is now well-established. Many surgical and percutaneous techniques have been used, with varying rates of success.

Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) occurs frequently in patients with mitral valve disease. Results of cryoablation concomitant with either minimally invasive video-assisted [minimally invasive mitral valve surgery (MIMVS)] or with robotic-assisted (RMV) mitral valve surgery have previously been separately reported. However, there are up-to-date no studies comparing the two procedures in terms of safety, efficacy, and mid-term follow-up.

Minimal-Access Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) Closure.

J Cardiovasc Dev Dis

May 2023

Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Blackpool Victoria Hospital, Blackpool FY3 8NR, UK.

Progress towards the development and adoption of minimally invasive techniques in cardiac surgery has been slower than that seen in other surgical specialties. Congenital heart disease (CHD) patients represent an important population within cardiac disease, of which atrial septal defect (ASD) is one of the most common diagnoses. Management of ASD encompasses a range of minimal-access and minimally invasive approaches, including transcatheter device closure, mini-sternotomy, thoracotomy, video-assisted, endoscopic, and robotic approaches.

Cardiac myxomas: A narrative review.

World J Cardiol

April 2022

Department of Cardiology, National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, Dhaka 1207, Bangladesh.

Cardiac myxomas are common primary neoplasms of the heart. They are biologically benign but "functionally malignant" because of the potential for embolization. They arise most commonly from the left atrium, but no chambers of the heart are immune.

Background: Sutureless prostheses may have added benefit when combined with minimal access surgery, although this has not been fully assessed in the literature. This study aims to provide a comparative analysis of the Perceval valve comparing median sternotomy (MS) with mini-sternotomy (MIS).

Methods: A retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data was conducted for all isolated aortic valve replacement (AVR), using the Perceval valve, for severe aortic stenosis cases in the period 2014 to 2019.
