Using genetic hybridization analysis, pulsed-field gel electrophoresis of chromosomal DNA and PCR/RFLP analysis of the MET2 gene, we reidentified 11 Champagne yeast strains. Two of them, SCPP and SC4, were found to belong to Saccharomyces bayanus var. uvarum and the remaining strains to S. cerevisiae. Strain

We successfully enhanced bacterial cellulose (BC) production in low-cost coconut water (CW) at 37 °C by low-nutrient adaptation of Komagataeibacter xylinus MSKU 12. In this study, the BC yield was significantly increased by simultaneous coculture fermentation of MSKU 12 with Saccharomyces bayanus in Hestrin-Schramm (HS) and CW media. Coculture fermentation at 30 °C produced BC yields of 13.

Interspecies hybridization is prevalent in various eukaryotic lineages and plays important roles in phenotypic diversification, adaptation, and speciation. To better understand the changes that occurred in the different subgenomes of a hybrid species and how they facilitate adaptation, we have completed chromosome-level de novo assemblies of all chromosomes for a recently formed hybrid yeast, strain CBS380, using Oxford Nanopore Technologies' MinION long-read sequencing. We characterize the genome and compare it with its parent species, and , and other genomes to better understand genome evolution after a relatively recent hybridization event.

2-Phenylethanol (2-PE) is a highly valuable aromatic alcohol utilized in fragrance, cosmetics and food industries. Due to the toxic by-products from chemical synthesis and the low productivity of the extraction method, bioproduction of 2-PE by yeast is considered promising. In this study, a wild-type Saccharomyces bayanus L1 strain producing 2-PE was isolated from soy sauce mash.

Interspecies hybridization is prevalent in various eukaryotic lineages and plays important roles in phenotypic diversification, adaption, and speciation. To better understand the changes that occurred in the different subgenomes of a hybrid species and how they facilitated adaptation, we completed chromosome-level assemblies of all 16 pairs chromosomes for a recently formed hybrid yeast, strain CBS380 (IFO11022), using Nanopore MinION long-read sequencing. Characterization of subgenomes and comparative analysis with the genomes of its parent species, and provide several new insights into understanding genome evolution after a relatively recent hybridization.
