Laparoscopic hepatic hydatidectomy (LHE) was performed in 37 patients. Conversion to laparotomy in one case was caused by intrahepatic location of liver cyst. In 36 patients after LHE, the postoperative period was significantly easier than after standard operation. There were the following complications: bile efflux in abdominal cavity (1), bile efflux from residual cavity (2), suppuration of residual cavity (1). The complications were removed without laparotomy, all the patients recovered. The patients were discharged on day 5.6 on the average. LHE is a promising method of surgical treatment for uncomplicated liver echinococcosis.

Gastrointestinal absorption and its regulation of hawthorn leaves flavonoids.

Sci Rep

January 2025

School of Pharmacy, Fudan University, 826 Zhangheng Road, Shanghai, 201203, P.R. China.

Hawthorn leave flavonoids (HLF) are widely used as an herb or dietary supplements for cardio-cerebrovascular diseases. However, its gastrointestinal absorption behavior and mechanism have not been disclosed. In this study, gastrointestinal absorption and its regulation of 4''-O-glucosylvitexin (GLV), 2''-O-rhamnosylvitexin (RHV), vitexin (VIT), rutin (RUT) and hyperoside (HP) in HLF were investigated using in vitro, in situ and in vivo models.

Purpose: The Baolier capsule (BLEC) is a proprietary Mongolian medicine administered for treating hypercholesterolemia and atherosclerosis (AS). However, the therapeutic effects, primary bioactive ingredients, and potential mechanisms underlying hypercholesterolemia and AS remain unclear. This study aimed to investigate the pharmacological effects, principal active ingredients, and mechanisms of BLEC against hypercholesterolemia and AS.

Background: Cytochromes P450 (CYPs) are heme-containing oxidoreductase enzymes with mono-oxygenase activity. Human CYPs catalyze the oxidation of a great variety of chemicals, including xenobiotics, steroid hormones, vitamins, bile acids, procarcinogens, and drugs.

Findings: In our review article, we discuss recent data evidencing that the same CYP isoform can be involved in both bioactivation and detoxification reactions and convert the same substrate to different products.

TolCV1 inhibition by NPPB renders less virulent and more susceptible to antibiotics.

Antimicrob Agents Chemother

College of Pharmacy and Research Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chonnam National University, Gwangju, Republic of Korea.

Bacterial efflux pumps play important roles in the antibiotic resistance and excretion of virulence factors. We previously characterized that TolCV1, a component of efflux pumps, plays critical roles in resistance to antibiotics and bile and also RtxA1 toxin secretion of . In this context, we speculated that TolCV1 blockers would have a dual effect of enhancing susceptibility to antibiotics and suppressing virulence of .

Article Synopsis
  • Drug-induced cholestasis (DIC) is a significant concern in drug development, as it disrupts bile flow and causes toxic buildup of bile acids in the liver, representing a type of drug-induced liver injury (DILI).
  • Researchers developed a predictive model using in vitro data from 47 drugs, which distinguished between drugs with and without DILI concerns, achieving a strong predictive performance (p-value of 0.039, PR AUC of 0.91).
  • The study highlights the importance of multiple liver processes in bile acid regulation and suggests that using a quantitative model in preclinical stages can improve drug safety and reduce failures in later development stages.
