Expression of prion protein (PrP) genes in transgenic (Tg) mice has been an extremely effective means of studying human and animal prion diseases. Indeed, much of what we currently understand about the molecular basis of prion pathogenesis derives from such studies. Despite these advances, the emergence of a new variant of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (vCJD), apparently the human manifestation of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), demonstrates that our understanding of the factors controlling prion transmission is far from complete. We review studies in Tg mice that have addressed issues of prion strains and species barriers and have provided insights into mechanisms of prion propagation. The goal of future investigation will be to determine the interplay between PrP primary structure and conformation in determining prion transmission barriers and we discuss some ongoing transgenic studies designed to address these issues.

Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2, also known as ERBB2) signaling promotes cell growth and differentiation, and is overexpressed in several tumor types, including breast, gastric and colorectal cancer. HER2-targeted therapies have shown clinical activity against these tumor types, resulting in regulatory approvals. Background: Although topical corticosteroids (TCS) represent first-line treatment for vulvar lichen sclerosus (VLS) and as such should be prescribed to all women at time of diagnosis, approximately 30% of patients do not experience complete symptom resolution following such treatment. TCS may not effectively improve vulvar trophism and elasticity, both of which are crucial for sexual function. Owing to its regenerative and healing properties, cord blood platelet-rich plasma (CB-PRP) may represent an efficacious supplementary therapy, to be administered following first line treatment with TCS.

Objectives: Primary frozen shoulder is a shoulder joint disease that severely impacts the quality of life of patients, and intra-articular injection is a common treatment method. This study aims to evaluate and compare the therapeutic effects of sodium hyaluronate (SH), corticosteroids (CS), and autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in the treatment primary frozen shoulder.
Methods: A total of 117 patients diagnosed with primary frozen shoulder and treated with a single injection of SH, CS, or PRP into the glenohumeral joint under ultrasound guidance at the Third Xiangya Hospital of Central South University from January 1, 2020, to December 31, 2022, were included in the study.

This study assessed the effectiveness of adding leukocyte-poor platelet-rich plasma (PRP) during carpal tunnel release surgery for patients with moderate to severe carpal tunnel syndrome. In a randomized controlled trial, 70 patients were assigned to either standard carpal tunnel release (control group) or release with leukocyte-poor PRP applied to the median nerve (PRP group). Primary outcomes were measured using the Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire at 3 months, and secondary outcomes included pain, strength, sensation and electrodiagnostic examinations at multiple time points.
