A statistical procedure has been developed to derive a screening value from an observational study related to the developmental toxicity observed in loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta) eggs exposed to long chain per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). A dataset of 41 nests in which the hatching rate was inversely correlated with the increase in the PFAS concentration in unhatched eggs was processed via a categorical regression approach. After outliers identification and removal, categorical regression analysis tested the relationships of the outcomes with the following parameters: perfluoro-nonanoic (PFNA), decanoic (PFDA), undecanoic (PFUdA), and dodecanoic (PFDoA) acids; perfluoroctansulfonate (PFOS); polychlorobiphenyls (PCBs) 28, 52, 101, 138, 153, 180; lead (Pb), total mercury (Hgtot), and cadmium (Cd); and other factors, such as "nest site," "clutch size," "incubation duration," and "nest minimum depth," as confounders/modifiers of the hatching rate.

Background: The European hake () is a commercially valuable demersal species widely distributed in the Mediterranean Sea. Assessing the condition of fish populations in their natural habitats is challenging due to the lack of reliable reference points.
Objective: This study aimed to utilize hematological analysis as an economical method to evaluate the physiological and health status of European hake, addressing the gap in hematological data for this species.

Symbiotic cnidarians, such as sea anemones and corals, rely on their mutualistic microalgal partners (Symbiodiniaceae) for survival. Marine heatwaves can disrupt this partnership, and it has been proposed that introducing experimentally evolved, heat-tolerant algal symbionts could enhance host thermotolerance. To test this hypothesis, the sea anemone Exaiptasia diaphana (a coral model) was inoculated with either the heterologous wild type or heat-evolved algal symbiont, Cladocopium proliferum, and homologous wild-type Breviolum minutum.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) have become ubiquitous chemicals that pose potentially serious threats to both human health and the integrity of the ecosystem. This review compiles current knowledge on PFAS contamination in estuaries, focusing on sources, abundance, distribution, fate, and toxic mechanisms. It also addresses the health risks associated with these compounds and identifies research gaps, offering recommendations for future studies.

Previous research has revealed that, during the late afternoon, the ozone (O3) concentration tends to elevate at the northern perimeter of Mount Everest (5200 m above sea level). This increase is attributed to the natural gradient of rising O3 concentration with height, exacerbated by the corresponding downstream mountain winds. Our recent field observations corroborate this finding, showing a consistent increase in O3 concentrations by approximately 13.
