A population survey in northern Liberia showed an average incidence of 9 percent of beta-thalassaemia trait. There was considerable tribal variation, the highest rates being mainly found in tribes having a low incidence of Hb S. A single example of deltabeta-thalassaemia trait was also found; the incidence of delta-chain variants was 1.8 percent. The effect of malaria on Hb A2 levels was investigated but appeared to be negligible. The problems of beta-thalassaemia and Hb S occurring in the same population are discussed. It is considered that, although made on a local sample, the results of this survey indicate a high incidence of beta-thalassaemia trait elsewhere in Liberia and that this is a suitable are for investigations of linkage at beta- and delta-chain loci. No conclusion is at present possible from the data on the presence of alpha-thalassaemia although 10 percent of neonates were found to have increased levels of Hb Barts.

Background And Objective: Esophageal cancer (EC) is the seventh most prevalent cancer globally and the sixth leading cause of cancer-related mortality. This study aimed to provide an updated stratified assessment of rates in EC incidence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) from 1990 to 2021 by sex, age, and Socio-demographic Index (SDI) at global, regional, and national levels, as well as to project the future trends of EC both globally and regionally.
Methods: Data about age-standardized rates (ASRs) of incidence (ASIR), mortality (ASDR), probability of death (ASPoD) and DALYs (ASDALYRs) of EC were obtained from the 2021 Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study.

The main objective of this study was to map the quality of groundwater for domestic use in the Nabogo Basin, a sub-catchment of the White Volta Basin in Ghana, by applying machine learning techniques. The study was conducted by applying the Random Forest (RF) machine learning algorithm to predict groundwater quality, by utilizing factors that influence groundwater occurrence and quality such as Elevation, Topographical Wetness Index (TWI), Slope length (LS), Lithology, Soil type, Normalize Different Vegetation Index (NDVI), Rainfall, Aspect, Slope, Plan Curvature (PLC), Profile Curvature (PRC), Lineament density, Distance to faults, and Drainage density. The groundwater quality of the area was predicted by building a Random Forest model based on computed Arithmetic Water Quality Indices (WQI) (as dependent variable) of existing boreholes, to serve as an indicator of the groundwater quality.
