The synthesis of a series of Pt{κ-,,'-[L]}X (X = Cl, RC≡C) pincer complexes derived from purine and purine nucleosides is reported. In these complexes, the 6-phenylpurine skeleton provides the ,-cyclometalated fragment, whereas an amine, imine, or pyridine substituent of the phenyl ring supplies the additional '-coordination point to the pincer complex. The purine ,-fragment has two coordination positions with the metal (1 and 7), but the formation of the platinum complexes is totally regioselective.

A series of new luminescent cycloplatinated(II) complexes (5a-8a and 5b-8b) with formulas Pt(bt)(N^O) and Pt(bt)(N^P) have been synthesized [bt = phenylbenzothiazole, N^O = (2-(1-benzimidazole)-phenyl)diphenylphosphine oxide derivatives for 1a-4a and N^P = (2-(1-benzimidazole)-phenyl)diphenylphosphine derivatives for 1b-4b]. The crystal structures of the complexes show distorted square planar geometries around the platinum centers. There are no obvious π-π and Pt-Pt intermolecular interactions in the crystal lattice due to the presence of sterically bulky ancillary ligands.

A series of heteroleptic cyclometalated platinum(II) complexes, [Pt(C^N)(O^O)], (1-10) with various donors and acceptors has been synthesized and characterized by H NMR spectroscopy, elemental analyses, infrared spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. The X-ray structure of 2 has also been determined. The electrochemical and photophysical properties of the platinum(II) complexes were studied.

Described here is the synthesis and characterization of heteroleptic binuclear platinum(ii) complexes of the type [Pt2(μ-bpy-2H)(S^S)2] and [Pt2(μ-bpy-2H)(L)2(X)2], containing a 2,2'-bipyridine-based double rollover cycloplatinated core (Pt(μ-bpy-2H)Pt), in combination with the anionic S^S- chelate ligands di(ethyl)dithiocarbamate (dedtc) and O,O'-di(cyclohexyl)dithiophosphate (dcdtp) or non-chelating L/X ancillary ligands (PPh3/Me, t-BuNC/Me, PPh3/SCN and PPh3/N3). The new complexes were characterized using multinuclear (1H, 31P and 195Pt) NMR spectroscopy and some of them additionally using single crystal X-ray diffraction. The absorption and photoluminescence of the complexes show a strong dependence on the ancillary ligands.

The square-planar heteroleptic Pt(II) coordination compound [Pt(bpy)(dicnq)](NO) (1) and the quaternized dicnq ligand, namely 12,13-dicyano-5,6-dihydrodipyrazino[2,3-f:1',2',3',4'-lmn][1,10]phenanthroline-4,7-diium dibromide (2) (Fig. 1) were synthesized and fully characterized by means of FTIR, NMR, MALDI-TOF MS and the purity was confirmed by CHN analyses. The DNA binding profiles of 1 and 2 were identified in an identical condition.
