Published: December 2000

1. True metabolisable energy (TME) of various foodstuffs were determined in turkeys at 3, 9 and 17 weeks of age. 2. TME of soyabean meal did not change with age but TME of wheat and maize was 13% higher in 17-week-old turkeys than in 3- and 9-week-old birds. 3. These differences should be taken into account when formulating diets for turkeys.

We have used multiple regression analyses to develop a series of metabolisable energy (ME) prediction equations from chemical analyses of pig diets that can be extended to murine diets. We compiled four datasets from an extensive range of published metabolism studies with grower/finisher and adult pigs. The analytes in the datasets were increasingly complex, comprising: 1.

Nutritional Value of for Weaner Piglets.

Animals (Basel)

December 2024

LEAF-Linking Landscape, Environment, Agriculture and Food Research Center, Instituto Superior de Agronomia, Universidade de Lisboa, Tapada da Ajuda, 1349-017 Lisboa, Portugal.

This study evaluates the nutritional value of spray-dried biomass to infer its applicability for weaner piglet feeding. Twenty-four piglets were randomly allocated to four dietary treatments ( = 6) with increasing inclusion (0, 5, 10, and 15%) levels. After a 4-day adaptation period, the digestibility experiment lasted two weeks, with daily excreta collection.

Assessing the Variability of Energy Metabolisability in Barley, Rye, and Wheat Varieties for Broiler Diets.

Animals (Basel)

December 2024

Animal Nutrition and Welfare Service (SNiBA), Department of Animal and Food Science, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), 08193 Bellaterra, Spain.

This trial assessed the variability of energy metabolisability in four varieties of barley, rye, and wheat based on changes in energy and nutrient flow estimations in excreta. Twelve diets were created by combining 40% of each cereal variety and 60% of a common mixture, divided into enzyme-supplemented and non-supplemented versions, resulting in 24 experimental diets that included TiO and YbO as indigestible markers. A total of 432 one-day-old broilers were distributed into 72 cages and fed a single diet from day 1 to 15.

This study aimed to evaluate the intake, digestibility, ingestive behaviour, productive performance, rumen fermentation and carcass yield of lambs fed diets with (PP) replacing ground corn. For this, twenty-eight castrated male lambs (18.34 ± 4.

Article Synopsis
  • Introducing biotechnology in food, feed, and forage crops can lead to significant improvements that traditional breeding can't achieve, though it faces high costs and regulatory challenges.
  • Large commodity crops benefit most from these advancements, while New Zealand, with its focus on pastoral agriculture, encounters greater difficulties due to limited seed markets and investment.
  • AgResearch has created innovative methods to enhance plant photosynthesis and nutritional quality, which could globally improve animal productivity and reduce agriculture's environmental impact.
