UCNPs@PVP-Hemin-GOx@CaCO Nanoplatform for Ferroptosis Self-Amplification Combined with Calcium Overload.

Adv Healthc Mater

March 2025

Molecular Diagnostic Center, Key Laboratory of Clinical Cancer Pharmacology and Toxicology Research of Zhejiang Province, Hangzhou First People's Hospital, Hangzhou, 310006, China.

Due to the complexity of the tumor microenvironment (TME), current tumor treatments cannot achieve satisfactory results. A nanocomposite material, UCNPs@PVP-Hemin-GOx@CaCO (UPHGC NPs) is developed that responds to the TME and controls release to achieve multimodal synergistic therapy in tumor tissues. UPHGC NPs mediate photodynamic therapy (PDT), chemodynamic therapy (CDT), and starvation therapy (ST) synergistically, ultimately inducing self-amplification of ferroptosis.

Optimizing cancer therapy through metal organic frameworks-based nanozymes.

February 2025

Hebei Key Laboratory of Medical-Industrial Integration Precision Medicine, School of Clinical Medicine, North China University of Science and Technology, Tangshan 063000, China. Electronic address:

Cancer remains a leading global health challenge, with conventional treatments facing limitations due to drug resistance and adverse effects arising from tumor heterogeneity. Nanozymes, nanomaterials mimicking natural enzymes, have emerged as promising therapeutic agents owing to their catalytic efficiency, stability, and biocompatibility. Among nanozymes, MOFs-based nanozymes are particularly attractive due to the inherent tunability of MOFs, which allows for precise control over their structure, porosity, and catalytic activity.

Ligand engineering boosts catalase-like activity of gold nanoclusters for cascade reactions combined with glucose oxidase in ZIF-8 matrix.

Tianjian Laboratory of Advanced Biomedical Sciences, Institute of Advanced Biomedical Sciences, Henan International Joint Laboratory of Tumor Theranostic Cluster Materials, Henan Key Laboratory of Crystalline Molecular Functional Materials, College of Chemistry, Zhengzhou University, 450001, Zhengzhou, China. Electronic address:

Background: Integrating natural enzymes and nanomaterials exhibiting tailored enzyme-like activities is an effective strategy for the application of cascade reactions. It is essential to develop a highly efficient and robust glucose oxidase-catalase (GOx-CAT) cascade system featuring controllable enzyme activity, a reliable supply of oxygen, and improved stability for glucose depletion in cancer starvation therapy. However, the ambiguous relationship between structure and performance, and the difficulty in controlling enzyme-mimic activity, significantly hinder their broader application.

The Nutrient-Skin Connection: Diagnosing Eating Disorders Through Dermatologic Signs.

Nutrients

December 2024

Department of Biomedical Sciences, School of Health and Care Sciences, University of West Attica, GR-12243 Athens, Greece.

The interplay between nutrition and skin health provides a crucial lens for understanding, diagnosing, and managing eating disorders (EDs) such as anorexia nervosa (AN), bulimia nervosa (BN), and binge-eating disorder (BED). This review explores the dermatological manifestations resulting from the nutritional deficiencies commonly associated with EDs, including conditions like hair loss, xerosis, and brittle nails. These changes in the skin and its appendages often reflect deeper systemic dysfunctions, such as deficiencies in essential micronutrients (zinc, iron, and vitamins A and C), hormonal imbalances, and electrolyte disturbances.

PE7-Mediated Alleviation of Phosphate Starvation and Growth Promotion of Netted Melon ( L. var. Naud.).

Microorganisms

November 2024

Environmentally-Friendly Agricultural Research Center, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Chonnam National University, Gwangju 61186, Republic of Korea.

Members of species are able to enhance the level of available phosphorus (P) for plant absorption through mechanisms of P solubilization and mineralization. In our study, PE7 showed P-solubilizing activity in simple phosphate broth (SPB) medium, and acetic acid, iso-butyric acid, and iso-valeric acid were major organic acids responsible for the increase in soluble P and decrease in pH of SPB medium. In addition, strain PE7 released phytase on phytase-screening agar (PSA) medium, and analysis of semi-quantitative reverse transcription and polymerase chain reaction (sqRT-PCR) revealed that the gene expression was the highest at 1 day after incubation.
