It remains unclear why unilateral proximal carotid artery occlusion (UCAO) causes benign oligemia in mice, yet leads to various outcomes (asymptomatic-to-death) in humans. We hypothesized that inhibition of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) both transforms UCAO-mediated oligemia into full infarction and expands pre-existing infarction. Using 900 mice, we i) investigated stroke-related effects of UCAO with/without intraperitoneal administration of the NOS inhibitor (NOSi) N-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME, 400 mg/kg); ii) examined the rescue effect of the NO-donor, molsidomine (200 mg/kg at 30 minutes); and iii) tested the impact of antiplatelet medications.

Objective: Early diagnosis and treatment of candidemia in intensive care units (ICUs) remain a significant challenge globally because of the lack of well-established non-culture-based diagnostic methods. This study aimed to evaluate risk factors in critically ill ICU patients, develop a unique score, and create a real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay for the early diagnosis of candidemia.
Materials And Methods: The study was conducted in three phases: 1) Retrospective analysis of 100 ICU patients from İstanbul University-Cerrahpaşa between January 2017 and December 2018 to identify risk factors for invasive candidiasis, 2) development of Cerrahpaşa score based on these findings, and 3) prospective evaluation of 75 ICU patients, applying the newly created Cerrahpaşa score and implementing a rapid PCR-based test on whole blood samples.

Objective: is one of the leading causes of antibiotic-associated diarrhea. Recurrent infection (rCDI) is significant because of prolonged hospital stays, morbidity, and additional costs. Our study aimed to examine the characteristics of infections and investigate factors associated with recurrence.

Purpose: This study aimed to present clinical and immunological features in patients with neuroimmune complications of COVID-19 during Omicron wave in China.
Methods: Patients with neuroimmune complications associated with COVID-19 were retrospectively analyzed in Huashan Hospital from December 2022 to April 2023, during the widespread prevalence of Omicron variants in China. Demographic information, symptoms, electrophysiological findings, cerebrospinal fluid(CSF) test results and immunological markers, Magnetic Resonance Imaging(MRI) characteristics, treatment strategies and outcomes of these patients were reviewed and analyzed.

For the medical diagnosis of sepsis, it is crucial to differentiate infectious inflammation from noninfectious symptoms to prevent acute aggravation. Herein, a diagnosis for early stage sepsis was performed using LPC 16:0 and total phospholipids as small molecular biomarkers. The measurement of LPC 16:0 was conducted using a parylene matrix chip, which was developed to effectively detect small molecules in laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (LDI-MS).
