Surface antigen switching in Giardia lamblia was analyzed using monoclonal antibodies specific for two variant-specific surface proteins (VSPs). Two VSPs were detected on the surface of single trophozoites. Dual expression persisted for 13 h but disappeared at 36 h, as in other parasites that undergo surface antigenic variation.

Introduction: Malaria remains a significant burden, and a fully protective vaccine against is critical for reducing morbidity and mortality. Antibody responses against the blood-stage antigen Merozoite Surface Protein 2 (MSP2) are associated with protection from malaria, but its extensive polymorphism is a barrier to its development as a vaccine candidate. New tools, such as long-read sequencing and accurate protein structure modelling allow us to study the genetic diversity and immune responses towards antigens from clinical isolates with unprecedented detail.

: The hepatitis A virus (HAV) cellular receptor 1 (HAVCR1) is a type I integral membrane glycoprotein discovered in monkeys and humans as a HAV receptor. HAVCR1 contains an N-terminal immunoglobulin-like variable domain (IgV) followed by a mucin-like domain (Muc), a transmembrane domain, and a cytoplasmic tail with a canonical tyrosine kinase phosphorylation site. The IgV binds phosphatidylserine on apoptotic cells, extracellular vesicles, and enveloped viruses.

Wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) is an effective, non-invasive method for monitoring the spread of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) by tracking viral prevalence in water. This study aimed to investigate the presence of SARS-CoV-2 in surface water in Vietnam over two years. One-step quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) assays were employed to quantify SARS-CoV-2 and its variant-specific mutation sites (G339D/E484A) and pepper mild mottle virus (PMMoV) from a total of 315 samples (105 samples per site) to compare with reported Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases and environmental factors.

Background: Long QT syndrome is a lethal arrhythmia syndrome, frequently caused by rare loss-of-function variants in the potassium channel encoded by . Variant classification is difficult, often because of lack of functional data. Moreover, variant-based risk stratification is also complicated by heterogenous clinical data and incomplete penetrance.
