Plant-parasitic nematodes transmit viruses that hit hard on global agriculture. Both the nematodes and the viruses they carry persist in the soil for a long time with the only remedy being highly toxic chemicals. Fundamental new research may offer the hope of developing safer control strategies.

Introduction: Herpes simplex virus type-2 (HSV-2) infection is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) that causes genital ulcers. The prevalence of HSV-2 increases because of its asymptomatic shedding. This study aimed to evaluate community knowledge and attitude toward HSV-2 infection in Al-Jouf region.

Infectious disease transmission to different host species makes eradication very challenging and expands the diversity of evolutionary trajectories taken by the pathogen. Since the beginning of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, SARS-CoV-2 has been transmitted from humans to many different animal species, in which viral variants of concern could potentially evolve. Previously, using available whole genome consensus sequences of SARS-CoV-2 from four commonly sampled animals (mink, deer, cat, and dog), we inferred similar numbers of transmission events from humans to each animal species.

A novel automatic framework is proposed for global sexually transmissible infections (STIs) and HIV risk prediction. Four machine learning methods, namely, Gradient Boosting Machine (GBM), Random Forest (RF), XG Boost, and Ensemble learning GBM-RF-XG Boost are applied and evaluated on the Demographic and Health Surveys Program (DHSP), with thirteen features ultimately selected as the most predictive features. Classification and generalization experiments are conducted to test the accuracy, F1-score, precision, and area under the curve (AUC) performance of these four algorithms.

The virus distinguishes itself by the ability to replicate to high titers and transmit efficiently in a wide variety of hosts in diverse climatic environments. Fortunately, transmission to and between humans is scarce.

Soil-transmitted helminth (STH) infections affect one-fourth of the global population and pose a significant threat to human and animal health, with limited treatment options and emerging drug resistance. (whipworm) stands out as a neglected disease, necessitating new drugs to address this unmet medical need. We discovered that several different chemical series of related human Provirus Integration sites for Moloney murine leukemia virus (PIM) family kinase inhibitors possess potent anthelmintic activity by using whole-worm motility assays.
