Vaccines are widely used for the prophylaxis of swine erysipelas. According to national pharmacopoiea requirements, potency of these biologicals has to be tested in a mouse challenge model. Many animals are needed and the test causes much suffering. The development of an enzyme linked immunosorbet assay (ELISA) using an alkaline extract of Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae as antigen for coating the microtitre plate allows us to measure antibody titres in the serum of vaccinated mice. By comparing the antibody titres of vaccinated mice with the results of the animal challenge model it could be demonstrated that the in vitro method gives reliable and reproducible data which correlate with the results of the in vivo model. The ELISA offers the possibility to refine the currently used animal test, by replacing the challenge procedure and reducing the number of animals.

Background: Recent studies suggest a connection between immunoglobulin light chains (IgLCs) and coronary heart disease (CHD). However, current diagnostic methods using peripheral blood IgLCs levels or subtype ratios show limited accuracy for CHD, lacking comprehensive assessment and posing challenges in early detection and precise disease severity evaluation. We aim to develop and validate a Coronary Health Index (CHI) incorporating total IgLCs levels and their distribution.

Background: Over the past decades, the prevalence of obesity among adults has rapidly increased, particularly in socioeconomically deprived urban neighbourhoods. To better understand the complex mechanisms behind this trend, we created a system map exposing the underlying system driving obesity prevalence in socioeconomically deprived urban neighbourhoods over the last three decades in the Netherlands.
Methods: We conducted Group Model Building (GMB) sessions with a group of thirteen interdisciplinary experts to develop a Causal Loop Diagram (CLD) of the obesogenic system.

Background: The diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy continue to face numerous challenges, highlighting the urgent need for the development of rapid, accurate, and non-invasive methods for seizure detection. In recent years, advancements in the analysis of electroencephalogram (EEG) signals have garnered widespread attention, particularly in the area of seizure recognition.
Methods: A novel hybrid deep learning approach that combines feature fusion for efficient seizure detection is proposed in this study.

Background: Machine learning (ML) is increasingly used to predict clinical deterioration in intensive care unit (ICU) patients through scoring systems. Although promising, such algorithms often overfit their training cohort and perform worse at new hospitals. Thus, external validation is a critical - but frequently overlooked - step to establish the reliability of predicted risk scores to translate them into clinical practice.

Background: Commissioning for health services has been implemented as one approach to improve the quality and access to healthcare for First Nations, regional and remote populations. This review systematically scoped the literature for studies that described or evaluated the governance, funding, implementation and outcomes from health service commissioning targeting these groups in Canada, Australia, Aotearoa/New Zealand and the United States (CANZUS nations).
Methods: Seventeen databases were searched for relevant peer reviewed and grey literature studies published in English from 2010 to 2023.
