Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality for pregnant patients. A significant portion of cardiac morbidity and mortality is preventable and related to poor or delayed recognition of clinical warning signs and oversights in management. The establishment of pregnancy heart teams facilitates multidisciplinary planning to improve management of people with cardiovascular disease.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFCompartment syndrome caused by Streptococcus pyogenes (Group A Streptococcus) has rarely been documented. We report the case of a 53-year-old male, hypertensive, who developed compartment syndrome and myositis in the right lower limb. The patient underwent emergency fasciotomies of the anterior, lateral, superficial posterior and deep posterior compartments of the leg and two subsequent surgical debridements, in addition to receiving antibiotic treatment and delayed closure of the fasciotomies with grafts.

A 41-year-old man with a history of obesity, hypertension, and smoking suffered from numbness and weakness in both lower limbs. He was diagnosed with ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament and ligamentum flavum in the cervical and thoracic spine by X-rays, CT, and MRI. The patient underwent laminectomies at T2 and T3 levels, along with posterior fusion from T1 to T4, to address an upper thoracic spine lesion causing sensory deficits up to T5 and gait disturbances.
