Objective: We describe four cases of osteomyelitis that occurred in and around foci of preexisting osteonecrosis in the medullary cavity. Although sequestration is a well-known complication of osteomyelitis, there is little information known about infection occurring in proximity to large regions of already necrotic bone.
Conclusion: Osteomyelitis and bone infarction can be seen in the same patient population. Medullary infarcts may function as sequestra, predisposing patients to osteomyelitis and soft-tissue infection.

Methicillin-resistant (MRSA) osteomyelitis of the maxilla is a rare condition in paediatric patients, with limited evidence available for optimal treatment protocols. We present the case of a paediatric patient in the early childhood age group with post-traumatic maxillary osteomyelitis caused by MRSA. The child developed facial swelling following trauma, and imaging revealed maxillary sinus wall thickening and bone erosions.

Purpose Of Review: Optimal duration of therapy in SSTIs - a heterogeneous group of infections - remains unknown. The advances in knowledge of antibiotic duration of treatment in selected SSTIs that can impact clinical practice and published in the last 18 months are reviewed.
Recent Findings: Recent evidence indicates that few patients receive guideline concordant empiric antibiotics and appropriate duration in the United States, although this likely can be extrapolated to other countries.

() was first isolated from the larval stage of the fly vector It is a gram-negative, non-motile, strictly aerobic rod that thrives in temperatures between 28º C and 37º C. Its strong chitinase activity aids in metamorphosis, which suggests a symbiotic relationship with the fly. Although rare, has been implicated in human infections, like bacteremia and osteomyelitis, typically transmitted through fly larvae in skin wounds.
