The Chemical Shift Index (CSI) method proposed by Wishart et al. [Biochemistry (1992) 31, 1647-1651] to evaluate the secondary structure of peptides in aqueous solution uses as its reference the chemical shift values of each of the 20 natural amino acids (X) in a typical nonstructured sequence GGXAGG (17-20). In order to apply the CSI method to protected resin-bound peptides, we established a new database of chemical shift values for the same GGXAGG sequences in their protected form and anchored to a polystyrene resin swollen in DMF-d7. The predictive value of this new reference set in the CSI protocol was tested on different resin-bound peptides that were previously characterized by a full NOE analysis.

Chlorine radicals (Cl) are highly reactive and affect the fate of air pollutants. Several field studies in China have revealed elevated levels of daytime molecular chlorine (Cl), which, upon photolysis, release substantial amounts of Cl but are poorly represented in current chemical transport models. Here, we implemented a parametrization for the formation of daytime Cl through the photodissociation of particulate nitrate in acidic environments into a regional model and assessed its impact on coastal air quality during autumn in South China.

Background: MRI offers quantification of proton density fat fraction (PDFF) and tissue characteristics with T1 mapping. The influence of age, sex, and the potential confounding effects of fat on T1 values in skeletal muscle in healthy adults are insufficiently known.
Purpose: To determine the accuracy and repeatability of a saturation-recovery chemical-shift encoded multiparametric approach (SR-CSE) for quantification of T1 and muscle fat content, and establish normative values (age, sex) from a healthy cohort.

The aromaticity of a representative sample of pro-aromatic radicals and its nitro, amino, hydroxyl and imine substituted derivatives has been analysed by means of multicentre delocalization indices (MCI) and nuclear-independent chemical shifts (NICS). Because of their radical character, these compounds may exhibit conflicting α/ß aromaticity, so that the contribution of α and β electrons to the MCI and NICS has been analysed separately and their values qualitatively interpreted in terms of the 2n+1/2n rule. All the monocyclic radicals investigated show conflicting α/β aromaticity.

Neuroinflammation is a blanket term that describes the body's complex inflammatory response in the central nervous system (CNS). It encompasses a phenotype shift to a proinflammatory state, the release of cytokines, the recruitment of peripheral immune cells, and a wide variety of other processes. Neuroinflammation has been implicated in nearly every major CNS disease ranging from Alzheimer's disease to brain cancer.

: The increased SNR available at 7T combined with fast readout trajectories enables accelerated spectroscopic imaging acquisitions for clinical applications. In this report, we evaluate the performance of a Hadamard slice encoding strategy with a 2D rosette trajectory for multi-slice fast spectroscopic imaging at 7T. : Moderate-TE (~40 ms) spin echo and J-refocused polarization transfer sequences were acquired with simultaneous Hadamard multi-slice excitations and rosette in-plane encoding.
