Microbial fuel cell (MFC) technology has received increased interest as a suitable approach for treating wastewater while producing electricity. However, there remains a lack of studies investigating the impact of inoculum type and hydraulic retention time (HRT) on the efficiency of MFCs in treating industrial saline wastewater. The effect of three different inocula (activated sludge from a fish-canning industry and two domestic wastewater treatment plants, WWTPs) on electrochemical and physicochemical parameters and the anodic microbiome of a two-chambered continuous-flow MFC was studied.

The cellular electrical signals of living organisms were discovered more than a century ago and have been extensively investigated in the neuromuscular system. Neuronal depolarization and hyperpolarization are essential for our neuromuscular physiological and pathological functions. Bioelectricity is being recognized as an ancient, intrinsic, fundamental property of all living cells, and it is not limited to the neuromuscular system.

Despite significant advances in its management, AF remains a major healthcare burden affecting millions of individuals. Rhythm control with antiarrhythmic drugs or catheter ablation has been shown to improve symptoms and outcomes in AF patients, but current treatment options have limited efficacy and/or significant side-effects. Novel mechanism-based approaches could potentially be more effective, enabling improved therapeutic strategies for managing AF.

The study reports solid-state ceramic supercapacitors (SSCs) assembled using a novel composite electrolyte based on Li ion conducting perovskite-type LLTO (LiLaTiO) and an ionic liquid (EMIM BF). Small amounts of various ionic liquids (ILs) were added to LLTO to enhance the ionic conductivity and improve electrode compatibility. The optimal composition with approximately ∼6 wt% EMIM BF in LLTO exhibited a high ionic conductivity of around ∼10 Ω cm at room temperature, nearly three orders of magnitude higher than that of the pristine LLTO.

The clean conversion of CO is a strategic issue for addressing global climate change and advancing energy transformation. While the current clean CO conversion is limited to the H pyrolysis process, using HO as a proton source is more promising and sustainable. A microplasma discharge method is developed, driven by electricity, and utilized for CO conversion with HO.
