Implantable medical electronic devices (IMEDs) have attracted great attention and shown versatility for solving clinical problems ranging from real-time monitoring of physiological/ pathological states to electrical stimulation therapy and from monitoring brain cell activity to deep brain stimulation. The ongoing challenge is to select appropriate materials in target device configuration for biomedical applications. Currently, silk-based biomaterials have been developed for the design of diagnostic and therapeutic electronic devices due to their excellent properties and abundant active sites in the structure.

Neural electrostimulation has enabled different therapies to treat a number of health problems. For example, the cochlear implant allows for recovering the hearing function and deep brain electrostimulation has been proved to reduce tremor in Parkinson's disease. Other approaches such as retinal prostheses are progressing rapidly, as researchers continue to investigate new strategies to activate targeted neurons more precisely.

Strokes cause spasticity via stretch reflex hyperexcitability in the spinal cord, and spastic paralysis due to involuntary muscle contraction in the hands and fingers can severely restrict skilled hand movements. However, the underlying neurological mechanisms remain unknown. Using a mouse model of spasticity after stroke, we demonstrate changes in neuronal activity with and without electrostimulation of the afferent nerve to induce the stretch reflex, measured using quantitative activation-induced manganese-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging.

Purpose: Both cognitive motor dual-tasks (CMDT) protocols and hypoxic environments have been associated with significant impairments in cognitive and physical performance. We aimed to determine the effects of hypoxia on cognitive performance and neuromuscular fatigue during a highly physically demanding CMDT.

Methods: Fifteen young adults completed a first session involving a cognitive task (CTL) followed by cycling exercise (CTL) in normoxia.

: The aim of this study is to assess whether pain-inducing manual pressure (PIMP) leads to effects on pressure pain threshold (PPT) mediated by conditioned pain modulation (CPM) and whether these effects are influenced by the intensity and repetition of the stimulus. Additionally, the influence of psychological factors and physical activity on the response to PIMP was explored. : A total of 72 pain-free students were randomly assigned to three crossover trials.
