A single molecule sensor for several analytes is indeed desired by the scientists around the world due to obvious advantages. In this report we present a new class of Lophine incorporated azo dyes that has capacity of differential colorimetric detection of several metal ions. Interestingly the sensor was found to have pH dependent selective response towards several metals.

The COVID-19 pandemic, caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, has highlighted the urgent need for novel therapeutic agents targeting viral enzymes such as the main protease (Mpro), which plays a crucial role in viral replication. In this study, we investigate the inhibitory potential of 23 peptides isolated from the skin of amphibians belonging to the Hylidae and Leptodactylidae families against SARS-CoV-2 Mpro. Five peptides demonstrated significant inhibition using a colorimetric Mpro inhibition assay, with IC50 values ranging from 41 to 203 µM.

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a disorder that affects over 10% of the global population, and that would benefit from innovative methodologies that would provide early detection. Since it has been reported that there are high levels of urease in CKD patients' saliva, this sample is a promising non-invasive alternative to blood for CKD detection and monitoring. This work introduces a novel 3D µPAD for quantifying urease activity in saliva in a range of 0.

The present study aimed to test the efficacy of the chair-side rapid salivary C-reactive protein assay kit in differentiating oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs) and oral cancer from normal mucosa using whole salivary samples. In this study, unstimulated saliva samples of cases (OPMDs and oral cancer) and controls (systemically healthy subjects) were used to detect CRP levels using a novel colorimetric, quantitative rapid assay kit. Kruskal-Wallis ANOVA with a post hoc Dunn's test were applied to determine the difference in the mean and SD values between the case and control groups.

The overuse of antibiotics has led to the severe contamination of water bodies, posing a considerable hazard to human health. Therefore, the development of an accurate and rapid point-of-care testing (POCT) platform for the quantitative detection of antibiotics is necessary. In this study, Cerium oxide (CeO) and Ferrosoferric oxide (FeO) nanoparticles were simultaneously encapsulated into N-doped nanofibrous carbon microspheres to form of a novel nanozyme (CeFe-NCMzyme) with a porous structure, high surface area, and N-doped carbon material properties, leading to a considerable enhancement of the peroxidase (POD)-like activity compared with that of the CeO or FeO nanoparticles alone.
