Reactions of 1-R-2,4,6-trinitrobenenes (R = alkyl, protected aldehyde, aminocarbonyl, cyano groups, or isoxazole ring) with thiol salts were investigated. In most cases, these reactions gave a mixture of minor para and major ortho substitution products. Reactions of N,N-disubstituted 2,4,6-trinitrobenzamides with S-,O-, and N-nucleophiles afforded products of substitution of the p-nitro group exclusively. 1-Cyano-2,4,6-trinitrobenzene was found to be the most reactive and the least selective: all three nitro groups can be substituted using an excess of thiol salts. 2-R-4, 6-dinitrobenzamides showed no regioselectivity under similar conditions to yield 1:1 mixtures of para and ortho isomers.

The stable operation of high-capacity lithium-sulfur batteries (LSBs) has been hampered by slow conversion kinetics of lithium polysulfides (LiPSs) and instability of the lithium metal anodes. Herein, 6-(dibutylamino)-1,3,5-triazine-2,4-thiol (DTD) is introduced as a functional additive for accelerating the kinetics of cathodic conversion and modulating the anode interface. We proposed that a coordination interaction mechanism drives the polysulfide conversion and modulates the Li solvated structure during the binding of the N-active site of DTD to LiPSs and lithium salts.

Traditional photopolymerizations generally require an initiator for initiating the polymerization while few cases have created degradable chemical bonds. Moreover, the migration instability and cytotoxicity of photo initiators are posing issues to human health and the environment. In this work, we discovered an initiator-free photo polycondensation system (IFPPC) between polymercaptans and aldehyde monomers, producing elastic and high strength plastic materials with exchangeable and degradable dithioacetal groups.

There are few reliable biomarkers for gastrointestinal toxicity, and the further identification of such markers can improve the accuracy and speed of toxicological evaluations. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of several recently proposed biomarkers-plasma citrulline, fecal calprotectin, fecal bile acid, and plasma miRNAs (miR-194 and -215)-in detecting intestinal toxicity. To this end, cysteamine hydrocholoride (cysteamine, 600 or 900 mg/kg, PO), indomethacin (10 mg/kg, PO), or 2,4-Dinitrobenzenesulfonic acid hydrate (DNBS, 20 mg/kg, IR) were administered to male Wistar rats to establish models of gastric/duodenal, jejunum/ileum, or colonic damage, respectively.

A visible-light-promoted reduction of nitrobenzenes using formate salts as the reductant was developed. A wide range of nitrobenzenes can be converted into aniline products in a transition metal free fashion. Mechanistic studies revealed that radical species (carbon dioxide radical anion and thiol radical) are key intermediates for the transformation.
