Vibrio anguillarum is a pathogen responsible for vibriosis in aquaculture animals. The formation of bacterial biofilm contributes to infections and increases resistance to antibiotics. Tryptophanase and its substrate tryptophan have been recognized as signal molecules regulating bacterial biofilm formation.

Among the various causes of rhomboencephalitis, infection is the most common. However, conventional microbiological methods often yield negative results, making diagnosis challenging and leading to extensive, often inconclusive, diagnostics. Advanced molecular techniques like metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) offer a powerful and efficient approach to pathogen identification.

Background/objectives: This study aims to characterize antibiotic resistance (AR) and virulence markers in spp. isolated from Romanian outpatients' stool samples.
Methods: In 2019, community-acquired strains were collected and identified using MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry, antibiotic susceptibility profiles have been determined with the MicroScan system, and soluble virulence factors were evaluated using specific culture media, while biofilm formation was quantified in 96-well plates.

Melioidosis is a life-threatening infectious disease caused by the bacterium . Although culture is the gold standard for diagnosing melioidosis, it is time-consuming and delays timely treatment. Non-culture-based diagnostic techniques are interesting alternatives for the rapid detection of melioidosis.
