Tsallis has suggested a nonextensive generalization of the Boltzmann-Gibbs entropy, the maximization of which gives a generalized canonical distribution under special constraints. In this Brief Report, we show that the generalized canonical distribution so obtained may differ from that predicted by the law of large numbers when empirical samples are held to the same constraint. This conclusion is based on a result regarding the large deviation property of conditional measures and is confirmed by numerical evidence.

Hyperspectral images are rich in spectral and spatial information, providing a detailed and comprehensive description of objects, which makes hyperspectral image analysis technology essential in intelligent agriculture. With various corn seed varieties exhibiting significant internal structural differences, accurate classification is crucial for planting, monitoring, and consumption. However, due to the large volume and complex features of hyperspectral corn image data, existing methods often fall short in feature extraction and utilization, leading to low classification accuracy.

The influence of high-intensity electric fields on the stability of polymeric materials is a problem of interest in the design of next-generation energy storage and electronic devices, and for understanding the limits of stability of polymer films exposed to large electric fields generally. Here, we show that the dielectric strength of entangled glassy polymer films increases as an inverse power-law of the film thickness for "ultrathin" films below a micron in thickness. The dielectric strength enhancement in these polymer films becomes as large as ≈2 GV/m in films thinner than 100 nm, but in this thickness regime, the increase of the dielectric strength depends strongly on the polymer mass, sample aging time, and the method of film preparation.

Unlabelled: We report a simple procedure to produce carboxylated cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) from grassy biomass () using a two-step approach consisting of biomass fractionation with a protic ionic liquid followed by oxidation of the resulting cellulose-rich pulps with HO. The impact of the fractionation severity on the composition, structure, size, thermal stability, crystallinity, and degree of polymerization of the CNCs was evaluated. It was found that fractionation severity had a large impact on the pulp purity and its reactivity during the oxidation stage.

Background: During the COVID-19 pandemic, nursing home (NH) residents faced the highest risk of severe COVID-19 disease and mortality. Due to their frailty status, comorbidity burden can serve as a useful predictive indicator of vulnerability in this frail population. However, the prognostic value of these cumulative comorbidity scores like the Charlson comorbidity index (CCI) remained unclear in this population.

Although the criteria that support reimbursement decisions for medicines are often set by legislation, as is the case in Spain, in many cases neither the definition nor the measurement methods for these criteria are provided. Our goal was to elicit the views of a large sample of Spanish technical specialists on how to evaluate each one of the criteria that inform pricing and reimbursement decisions in Spain. Professionals from various stakeholder groups involved in health economics, health technology assessment, and industry participated in a survey.
