In a retrospective study we compare the functional and radiographical results of 2 groups of patients with unstable distal radial fractures treated with external fixation. In Group 1, 20 patients with 21 fractures were treated with external fixation for 3 weeks followed by a cast for 2 weeks. In Group 2, 16 patients were treated with external fixation for 5 weeks. The functional outcome was good in both treatment groups with no significant difference between the results in the two groups. Radiologically, Group I had less radial shortening than Group II, but there was no difference in the degree of dorsal angulation.

Therapeutic effect of titanium locking plate combined with suture anchor repair in proximal humeral fractures.

Pak J Med Sci

January 2025

Zhenfeng Huang Department of Orthopedic Trauma, Wuhan Fourth Hospital, Wuhan, Hubei Province 430000, P.R. China.

Objective: To explore the therapeutic effect of titanium locking plate combined with suture anchor (SA) repair in the treatment of proximal humeral fractures (PHF).

Methods: This retrospective study was conducted by analyzing the clinical data of 113 patients with PHF admitted to Wuhan Fourth Hospital from March 2021 to October 2023. Among them, 55 patients underwent open reduction and internal fixation (OR/IF) using titanium locking plate (OR/IF group), and 58 patients underwent surgery with titanium locking plate combined with SA (SA group).

Background: Open pelvic fractures are rare but represent a serious clinical problem with high mortality rates. Acute mortality is often associated with hemorrhage, whereas delayed mortality is most often associated with sepsis and multiple organ failure. We report a case of Wang's classification of type II open pelvic ring fracture with hemorrhagic shock and septic shock from gas gangrene.

Introduction: External fixators are utilized to temporarily stabilize bicondylar tibial plateau fractures. They can be prepped during definitive surgery to help maintain fracture length and alignment. However, there is a potential for increased infection by leaving the external fixator on during the surgery.

Divergent responses of plant multi-element coupling to nitrogen and phosphorus addition in a meadow steppe.

BMC Plant Biol

January 2025

Institute of Grassland Science, School of Life Sciences, Key Laboratory of Vegetation Ecology, Ministry of Education, Northeast Normal University, Changchun, China.

The intricate biogeochemical cycling of multiple elements plays a pivotal role in upholding a myriad of ecosystem functions. However, our understanding of elemental stoichiometry and coupling in response to global changes remains primarily limited to plant carbon: nitrogen: phosphorus (C: N: P). Here, we assessed the responses of 11 elements in plants from different functional groups to global changes.
