Central nervous system infections involving vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium (VREF) are infrequently described and pose significant therapeutic difficulties, because these organisms are intrinsically resistant to many antibiotics. We describe the use of intrathecal quinupristin/dalfopristin to treat a VREF-associated infection in a neuro--surgical patient.

Background: The purpose of the study was to understand the distribution and drug resistance characteristics of Enterococcus so as to provide a reliable basis for clinical use of antibiotics and hospital infection control.

Methods: In total, 3,455 strains of Enterococcus, isolated from January 2010 through December 2021, were col-lected. Bruker MALDI biotyper, MICROSCAN walkaway 40 analysis system, and Vitek-2 compact automatic drug sensitivity identification analyzer were used to identify the strains and to test drug sensitivity, and then the results were analyzed.

Objective: To describe the evolving epidemiology and risk associations of vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE) between 2018 and 2023 in a tertiary hospital in Singapore.

Methods: Inpatients in Singapore General Hospital (SGH) between January 2018 and December 2023 were included. VRE surveillance criteria changed in August 2020 and November 2022.

Objectives: To analyse the trends in occurrence of enterococcal and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium (VREfm) bacteraemia in the northern Dutch-German cross-border region.

Methods: A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted using positive blood culture results from two university hospitals, the University Medical Centre Groningen (UMCG) and the Klinikum Oldenburg (KOL) between1 January 2013 to 31 December 2022.

Results: Over the ten-year period, 738 enterococcal bacteraemia episodes were observed at KOL and 1091 at UMCG, involving 685 and 999 patients, respectively.

Background And Aim: Bovine mastitis, an inflammatory condition of the mammary gland, is a critical economic issue in the dairy industry. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) to mastitis-causing pathogens poses a significant threat to dairy operations in Thailand and Cambodia. This study investigates the AMR of mastitis pathogens in Thailand and Cambodia.

Antibiotic resistance is a major threat to human health and new drugs are urgently needed. Ideally, these drugs should have several cellular targets in pathogens, decreasing the risk of resistance development. We show here that two natural ribosomally synthesized lasso peptides (LPs), sviceucin and siamycin I, (1) abolish bacterial virulence of pathogenic enterococci, (2) restore vancomycin clinical susceptibility of vancomycin-resistant (VR) enterococci and in a surrogate animal model, and (3) re-sensitize VR .
