We study the null compactification of type-IIA string perturbation theory at finite temperature. We prove a theorem about Riemann surfaces establishing that the moduli spaces of infinite-momentum-frame superstring worldsheets are identical to those of branched-cover instantons in the matrix-string model conjectured to describe M theory. This means that the identification of string degrees of freedom in the matrix model proposed by Dijkgraaf, Verlinde, and Verlinde is correct and that its natural generalization produces the moduli space of Riemann surfaces at all orders in the genus expansion.

Reminiscent of physical phase transition separatrices divides the phase space of dynamical systems with multiple equilibria into regions of distinct flow behavior and asymptotics. We introduce complex time in order to study corresponding Riemann surface solutions of holomorphic and meromorphic flows, explicitly solve their sensitivity differential equation, and identify a related Hamiltonian structure and an associated geometry in order to study separatrix properties. As an application, we analyze the complex-time Newton flow of Riemann's ξ-function on the basis of a compactly convergent polynomial approximation of its Riemann surface solution defined as zero set of polynomials, e.

The Small- Series in the Zero-Dimensional () Model: Constructive Expansions and Transseries.

We consider the zero-dimensional quartic () vector model and present a complete study of the partition function (, ) and its logarithm, the free energy (, ), seen as functions of the coupling on a Riemann surface. We are, in particular, interested in the study of the transseries expansions of these quantities. The point of this paper is to recover such results using constructive field theory techniques with the aim to use them in the future for a rigorous analysis of resurgence in genuine quantum field theoretical models in higher dimensions.

Hyperbolic Lattices and Two-Dimensional Yang-Mills Theory.

Phys Rev Lett

October 2024

Department of Physics, University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta T6G 2E1, Canada.

Hyperbolic lattices are a new type of synthetic quantum matter emulated in circuit quantum electrodynamics and electric-circuit networks, where particles coherently hop on a discrete tessellation of two-dimensional negatively curved space. While real-space methods and a reciprocal-space hyperbolic band theory have been recently proposed to analyze the energy spectra of those systems, discrepancies between the two sets of approaches remain. In this work, we reconcile those approaches by first establishing an equivalence between hyperbolic band theory and U(N) topological Yang-Mills theory on higher-genus Riemann surfaces.

Background And Objective: To objectively analyze the effect of three-dimensional screen-based surgery (3D SBS) versus traditional operating microscope (TOM) on operating surgeon posterior chain postural musculature during ophthalmic surgery. We hypothesized an increase in median amplitude of electromyography (EMG) signals when using a TOM compared to 3D SBS. The goal was to assess surgical ergonomics that may contribute to cervical and lumbar spine pathology.
